Provides relative to the enrollment procedures of certain charter schools. (gov sig) 1 AN ACT 2 To enact R.S. 17:3991(C)(1)(c)(v), relative to the admission of children of teachers recruited 3 from other nations to teach at a language immersion charter school; and to provide 4 for related matters. 5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 6 Section 1. R.S. 17:3991(C)(1)(c)(v) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7 ยง3991. Charter schools; requirements; limitations; renewal; amendment; revocation 8 * * * 9 C. A charter school shall: 10 (1)(a) * * * 11 (c)(i) * * * 12 (v) Notwithstanding any provision of law or any process or policy 13 adopted by a local education agency to the contrary, a charter school with a 14 foreign language immersion mission may modify its application and enrollment 15 procedures and directly enroll the child of a faculty member who is recruited 16 from a foreign nation to teach in the school, provided the child meets all 17 mission-related admission requirements established for the school. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not 4 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature 5 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If 6 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become 7 effective on the day following such approval. Proposed law provides that, notwithstanding present law or any process or policy adopted by a local education agency, a charter school with a foreign immersion language mission may modify its application and enrollment procedures and directly enroll the child of a faculty member who is recruited from a foreign country to teach in the school, provided the child meets all mission-related admission requirements. Further provides that such child will not be counted when determining the enrollment capacity of a program, class, grade level, or school.
