1 AN ACT
2 To enact R.S. 17:3991(C)(1)(c)(v), relative to the admission of children of teachers recruited
3 from other nations to teach at a language immersion charter school; and to provide
4 for related matters.
5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 17:3991(C)(1)(c)(v) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
7 ยง3991. Charter schools; requirements; limitations; renewal; amendment; revocation

9 C. A charter school shall:

12 (v) Notwithstanding any provision of law or any process or policy
13 adopted by a local education agency to the contrary, a charter school with a
14 foreign language immersion mission may modify its application and enrollment
15 procedures and directly enroll the child of a faculty member who is recruited
16 from a foreign nation to teach in the school, provided the child meets all
17 mission-related admission requirements established for the school. No student

1 admitted to a charter school pursuant to this Item shall be counted when
2 determining the enrollment capacity of a program, class, grade level, or school.
3 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not
4 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature
5 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If
6 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become
7 effective on the day following such approval.

Present law provides relative to admission and enrollment requirements for each type of
charter school.
Proposed law provides that, notwithstanding present law or any process or policy adopted
by a local education agency, a charter school with a foreign immersion language mission
may modify its application and enrollment procedures and directly enroll the child of a
faculty member who is recruited from a foreign country to teach in the school, provided the
child meets all mission-related admission requirements. Further provides that such child will
not be counted when determining the enrollment capacity of a program, class, grade level,
or school.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
