(gov sig) 1 AN ACT 2 To enact R.S. 17:3991(C)(1)(c)(v) and (vi), relative to charter school enrollment procedures; 3 to allow direct enrollment of certain students; and to provide for related matters. 4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 5 Section 1. R.S. 17:3991(C)(1)(c)(v) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6 ยง3991. Charter schools; requirements; limitations; renewal; amendment; revocation 7 * * * 8 C. A charter school shall: 9 (1)(a) * * * 10 (c)(i) * * * 11 (v) Notwithstanding any provision of law or any process or policy 12 adopted by a local education agency to the contrary, a charter school may 13 modify its application and enrollment procedures and directly enroll the child 14 of a faculty member, provided the child meets all admission requirements for 15 the school. No student admitted to a charter school pursuant to this Item shall 16 be counted to determine whether such enrollment exceeds the capacity of a 17 program, class, grade level, or school. SB NO. 215 SLS 17RS-129 REENGROSSED 1 (vi) Notwithstanding any provision of law or any process or policy 2 adopted by a local education agency to the contrary, a charter school with a 3 foreign immersion mission may modify its application and enrollment 4 procedures and directly enroll the child of a foreign consular officer residing in 5 Louisiana, provided the child meets all mission-related and academic admission 6 requirements established for the school. No student admitted to a charter school 7 pursuant to this Item shall be counted to determine whether such enrollment 8 exceeds the enrollment capacity of a program, class, grade level, or school. 9 Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not 10 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature 11 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If 12 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become 13 effective on the day following such approval. The original instrument was prepared by Cheryl M. Proposed law provides that, notwithstanding present law or any process or policy adopted by a local education agency, a charter school may modify its application and enrollment procedures and directly enroll the child of a faculty member, provided the child meets all admission requirements for the school. Further provides that such child will not be counted when determining the enrollment capacity of a program, class, grade level, or school. Proposed law authorizes a charter school with a foreign immersion mission to modify its application and enrollment procedures and directly enroll the child of a foreign consular officer residing in Louisiana, provided the child meets all mission-related and academic admission requirements established for the school. Provides that no student admitted to a charter school be counted to determine whether such enrollment exceeds the enrollment capacity of a program, class, grade level, or school.
