2017 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE BILL NO. 215 BY SENATORS TARVER AND LAFLEUR Prefiled pursuant to Article III, Section 2(A)(4)(b)(i) of the Constitution of Louisiana. 1 AN ACT 2 To enact R.S. 17:3991(C)(1)(c)(v) and (vi), relative to charter school enrollment procedures; 3 to allow direct enrollment of certain students; and to provide for related matters. 4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 5 Section 1. R.S. 17:3991(C)(1)(c)(v) and (vi) are hereby enacted to read as follows: 6 ยง3991. Charter schools; requirements; limitations; renewal; amendment; revocation 7 * * * 8 C. A charter school shall: 9 (1)(a) * * * 10 (c)(i) * * * 11 (v) A charter school may directly enroll the child of a faculty member if 12 the child meets all admission requirements for the school. No student admitted 13 to a charter school pursuant to this Item shall be counted to determine whether 14 such enrollment exceeds the capacity of a program, class, grade level, or school. 15 A charter authorizer that uses a common application and enrollment process 16 for its charter schools shall adopt uniform policies and procedures to implement 17 the provisions of this Item, but such policies and procedures shall not limit the 18 ability of a school to exercise the authority granted by this Item. 19 (vi) A charter school with a foreign immersion mission may directly 20 enroll the child of a foreign consular officer who resides in Louisiana if the child 21 meets all mission-related and academic admission requirements established for 22 the school. No student admitted to a charter school pursuant to this Item shall 23 be counted to determine whether such enrollment exceeds the enrollment 24 capacity of a program, class, grade level, or school. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not 6 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature 7 by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If 8 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become 9 effective on the day following such approval.
