SLS 17RS-641 ORIGINAL 2017 Regular Session SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 101 BY SENATOR LONG COMMENDATIONS. Commends posthumously C.A. Core on being named to the 2017 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend and congratulate posthumously C.A. Core on being named to the 2017 3 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. 4 WHEREAS, C.A. Core is remembered as a legend in Louisiana basketball history; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, a native of Noblesville, Indiana, he made a name for himself as the most 7 decorated player in Southeastern Louisiana University basketball history and is the only 8 player who holds the honor of having had his number thirty-four team jersey retired and 9 hung from the rafters of the University Center; and 10 WHEREAS, during his time as an SLU Lion, C.A. Core set records for points, 11 scoring average, rebounds, rebounding average, field goals made, free throws made, and his 12 22.3 points per game during the 1964-1965 season remains the highest single-season scoring 13 average in school history; and 14 WHEREAS, his time as an SLU Lion also earned him a double-double rebounding 15 average every season, highlighted by a single-season school record of 18.5 rebounds per 16 contest during his senior year, and he can claim three of the top four averages in school 17 history; and 18 WHEREAS, he was recognized numerous times for his prowess on the basketball Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 101 SLS 17RS-641 ORIGINAL 1 court, including being the only National Collegiate Athletic Association All-American 2 selection in SLU history, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics All-American 3 selection both his junior and senior year, a four-time All-Gulf States Conference selection, 4 and he received the Associated Press All-American accolades his junior year; and 5 WHEREAS, C.A. Core has been inducted into the Hamilton County Basketball Hall 6 of Fame in Indiana, and the Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame; and 7 WHEREAS, upon graduating from college, he became a teacher and coach in St. 8 Tammany Parish, Louisiana, until his death at the age of forty-one; and 9 WHEREAS, the successful basketball career of C.A. Core has rightly earned him a 10 place among the many greats in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. 11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 12 commend and congratulate posthumously C.A. Core on being named to the 2017 Louisiana 13 Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class. 14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 15 family of C.A. Core.
