SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 106

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend the softball and baseball teams of LaSalle High School in Olla, Louisiana, for
each winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 1A state
championships in their respective sports.
WHEREAS, the young women and men comprising these 2017 teams pulled together
for one season-ending remarkable team effort and made history by being the first teams from
LaSalle to win state championships in the same academic year; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers softball team approached at the 2017 Allstate Sugar
Bowl Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 1A state championship tournament
with only one purpose which was to return to Olla with the championship title, the
culmination of a season-long focus on this goal; and
WHEREAS, on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, with their fellow students and teachers
lining the sidewalk cheering them on, the Lady Tigers began their trip to the tournament held
at Frasch Park in Sulphur, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers entered the state championship ranked number one, as
the games began, and they failed to disappoint, beating D'Arbonne Woods Charter School
15 to 0 on Thursday, April 27, 2017, defeating the South Cameron High School team 16 to
0 in the semifinals, and battling past Oak Grove High School by a score of 6 to 2 to Saturday
evening to win the state championship title, the first for LaSalle High School softball since
2002; and
WHEREAS, the 2017 LaSalle Lady Tigers team members are Taylor Snow, Carlie
Prudhomme, Ali Long, Kinsey Long, Sidni Laird, Savannah Floyd, Kinley Hosea, AnnaBeth
Pitman, Sam Floyd, Kierra Smith, Keeley Parham, Anna Clark, MariJane Skinner, Lauren
Harlan, Serena Juarez, Ashley Williams, Lexi Snoddy, Amanda Hyman, and Alyssa Welch,

athletic director and head coach Derek White, and assistant coaches Todd Long and Taylor
Williams; and 
WHEREAS, freshman softball player, Taylor Snow, was named Louisiana High
School Athletic Association Softball Tournament Class 1A outstanding player after the
championship game; and
WHEREAS, the 2017 LaSalle High School baseball team also traveled to Sulphur
to take part in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Louisiana State Athletic Association Baseball Class
1A tournament, held at McMurray Park from May 11 through 13, 2017, with their semifinal
game scheduled against Oberlin High School which they won by a score of 5 to 2; and
WHEREAS, the Tiger baseball team broke a drought dating to 1951 with an 8 to 3
victory over Grand Lake High School to take the Class 1A State Championship and return
home with the state title; and
WHEREAS, in the title game Hunter Sims had quality at-bats and two runs batted
in and the starting pitcher, Avery Reed pitched a solid four and one third innings, racking
up seven first pitch strikes to keep the opponent's batters on the defense and by racking up
five of their final eight runs in the first two innings, also placing pressure on the Grand Lake
team; and
WHEREAS, sophomore baseball player, Hunter Sims, was named Louisiana High
School Athletic Association Baseball Tournament Class 1A outstanding player after the
championship game; and
WHEREAS, the 2017 Tiger baseball team members are Blade Beaubouef, Waddie
Skinner, Eli Stringer, Avery Reed, Kade Bradford, Cullen Wise, Hunter Sims, Khailon
Williams, Kade Hillestad, Colby McGuffee, Easton Duke, Griffin Peppers, Cade Woodward,
Brock Blackwell, Ethan Woodward, Hunter Daigneault, Dillon Masters, Tyler Roshto, Ian
Williams, and Brayden Lawson, and head coach Michael Lynn Duke, and assistant coaches
Tim Wesson and Joel Sims; and
WHEREAS, the LaSalle High School Lady Tigers softball team and the LaSalle
High School Tiger Baseball team shared in a parade in their honor held on May 19, 2017,
and a public proclamation naming the week of May 15 through 19, 2017, "LHS Sweep the
Diamond Week" in Olla, acknowledging the history-making efforts of both teams; and

WHEREAS, emphasizing that the teams who took the field to win their state
championships contained, not only athletes, but students who took their academic
achievement seriously, the 2017 softball team member Carli Prudhomme and 2017 baseball
team member, Waddie Skinner were both LaSalle High School valedictorians of the Class
of 2017; and 
WHEREAS, several players on both teams have family ties to the 2002 state
champion softball team coaches and players and to the 1951 baseball team players and
coaches, providing a rich historical context for both of these 2017 teams; and
WHEREAS, with the lofty goal of winning their respective Class 1A state
championships, the history-making efforts of the LaSalle High School 2017 softball and
baseball teams reached that goal due to their team effort, hours of practice, and important
performances in key situations propelling these young women and men to bring their school
and their town a rare moment of pure joy and a celebration in which everyone could
participate. 
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend the 2017 softball and baseball teams of LaSalle High School in Olla for winning
the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 1A state championships in their
respective sports. 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
LaSalle High School principal, Kara Masling.
