Commends posthumously Raymond Ernest Didier on being named to the 2017 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend posthumously Raymond Ernest Didier on being named to the 2017 Louisiana 3 Sports Hall of Fame. 4 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana, each year 5 collaborates with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in selecting a limited number of 6 sports figures who embody the character, skill, and talents worthy of being named to the hall 7 of fame; and 8 WHEREAS, the 2017 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class includes Coach 9 Raymond Ernest Didier; and 10 WHEREAS, he was born in Marksville, Louisiana, on January 7, 1920, and began 11 his coaching career at what was then Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now the University 12 of Louisiana at Lafayette) in 1948 and during his nine seasons leading the team, earned five 13 Gulf State Conference baseball championships; and 14 WHEREAS, he also coached football for six seasons at the Southwestern Louisiana 15 Institute and steered the team to a league title; and 16 WHEREAS, in 1957, Coach Didier moved to Louisiana State University to coach 17 the baseball team, and during his tenure, the Tigers maintained a 104-79 record and won the 18 1961 Southeastern Conference Championship; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 108 SLS 17RS-643 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, while at LSU he enlisted his talents and skills as an assistant coach to 2 Paul Dietzel to help steer the football team to the 1958 National Collegiate Athletic 3 Association National Championship; and 4 WHEREAS, in 1963 he was hired on as the Nicholls State University baseball coach 5 and led the team to 217 victories in seven seasons; and 6 WHEREAS, he retired from coaching after the 1971 season with an overall 7 458-311-3 baseball record and remained on as athletic director at Nicholls State University 8 until his passing on March 9, 1978; and 9 WHEREAS, the successful coaching career of Raymond Ernest Didier has rightly 10 earned him a place among the many greats in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. 11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 12 commend posthumously Raymond Ernest Didier on being named to the 2017 Louisiana 13 Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class. 14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 15 family of Raymond Ernest Didier.
