SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 108

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To commend posthumously Raymond Ernest Didier on being named to the 2017 Louisiana
Sports Hall of Fame.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana, each year
collaborates with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in selecting a limited number of
sports figures who embody the character, skill, and talents worthy of being named to the hall
of fame; and
WHEREAS, the 2017 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class includes Coach
Raymond Ernest Didier; and
WHEREAS, he was born in Marksville, Louisiana, on January 7, 1920, and began
his coaching career at what was then Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now the University
of Louisiana at Lafayette) in 1948 and during his nine seasons leading the team, earned five
Gulf State Conference baseball championships; and
WHEREAS, he also coached football for six seasons at the Southwestern Louisiana
Institute and steered the team to a league title; and
WHEREAS, in 1957, Coach Didier moved to Louisiana State University to coach
the baseball team, and during his tenure, the Tigers maintained a 104-79 record and won the
1961 Southeastern Conference Championship; and
WHEREAS, while at LSU he enlisted his talents and skills as an assistant coach to
Paul Dietzel to help steer the football team to the 1958 National Collegiate Athletic
Association National Championship; and
WHEREAS, in 1963 he was hired on as the Nicholls State University baseball coach
and led the team to 217 victories in seven seasons; and

WHEREAS, he retired from coaching after the 1971 season with an overall
458-311-3 baseball record and remained on as athletic director at Nicholls State University
until his passing on March 9, 1978; and
WHEREAS, the successful coaching career of Raymond Ernest Didier has rightly
earned him a place among the many greats in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend posthumously Raymond Ernest Didier on being named to the 2017 Louisiana
Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
family of Raymond Ernest Didier.
