SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 116
BY SENATORS MORRISH AND PERRY 
COURTS.  Requests the Judicial Council to study the feasibility of dividing the 15
th
 Judicial
District into three separate judicial districts.
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To urge and request the Judicial Council of the Supreme Court of Louisiana to study the
3 feasibility of dividing the Fifteenth Judicial District into three separate judicial
4 districts, one district to be comprised of Acadia Parish, one district to be comprised
5 of Vermilion Parish, and one district to be comprised of Lafayette Parish.
6 WHEREAS, there is a need to determine the feasibility of dividing the Fifteenth
7 Judicial District, currently comprised of Acadia, Lafayette, and Vermilion parishes, into
8 three districts, one judicial district for each parish; and 
9 WHEREAS, R.S. 13:61(B)(2) provides that before a bill is acted upon by the
10 legislature to split courts, the Judicial Council of the Supreme Court of Louisiana shall
11 provide information to the legislature as to council approval as to the necessity of splitting
12 the courts; and
13 WHEREAS, the Judicial Council has adopted determinate standards and guidelines
14 relating to the splitting of judicial districts which are applied by the council in determining
15 whether to approve the necessity of splitting a judicial district.
16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
17 urge and request the Judicial Council of the Supreme Court of Louisiana to study the
18 feasibility of dividing the Fifteenth Judicial District into three separate districts, one judicial

1 district to be comprised of Acadia Parish, one district to be comprised of Vermilion Parish,
2 and one district comprised of Lafayette Parish, and to make its recommendation to the
3 legislature on or before January 12, 2018.
4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
5 judicial administrator of the Supreme Court of Louisiana.
