SLS 17RS-179 ORIGINAL 2017 Regular Session SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 12 BY SENATOR BOUDREAUX COMMENDAT IONS. Commends the Lafayette Christian Academy Lady Knights for winning the 2017 LHSAA Division IV state championship. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend and congratulate the Lafayette Christian Academy Lady Knights basketball 3 team on winning the 2017 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division IV 4 state championship. 5 WHEREAS, for the first time in school history, a Lafayette Christian Academy team 6 brought home a state championship; and 7 WHEREAS, the Lady Knight players completed their season with an impressive 8 winning record of thirty wins and ten losses; and 9 WHEREAS, the Lady Knights defied the odds and defeated the number one team in 10 Division IV, the Houma Christian Lady Warriors; and 11 WHEREAS, the Lady Knights were victorious in an epic battle of skill and agility 12 to beat the Lady Warriors by a score of 54-46; and 13 WHEREAS, tied 7-7 at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Knights began to pull 14 away in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Warriors in the second period 15-11 to take 15 a 22-18 halftime advantage; and 16 WHEREAS, the lead only grew for the Lady Knights coming out of the locker room 17 as they outscored the Lady Warriors 13-8, pushing the advantage to 35-26 heading into the 18 fourth period; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 12 SLS 17RS-179 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, they held the Lady Warriors to twenty-seven percent shooting on the 2 night, and junior guard, Megan Abrams, relentlessly attacked the rim on her way to a 3 thirty-three point outburst amid twenty-two free throw attempts; and 4 WHEREAS, Ms. Abrams' thirty-three points were only six shy of the Class A record 5 for points in a game and her seven rebounds clinched her selection as the Most Valuable 6 Player; and 7 WHEREAS, sophomore forward, Janae Duffy, added six points and twelve rebounds 8 to catapult the Lady Knights toward victory; and 9 WHEREAS, the distinguished team performance of the entire Lafayette Christian 10 Academy Lady Knights basketball team throughout the regular season and the postseason 11 has earned them the Class 1A Division IV championship title; and 12 WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved 13 without the guidance and skills of head coach, Errol Rogers, and assistant coach, Devon 14 Lantier, as well as all of the other individuals who have contributed to the success of the 15 Lady Knights basketball program. 16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana hereby 17 commends and congratulates each of the coaches, managers, and the extraordinary young 18 women of the Lafayette Christian Academy Lady Knights on their much deserved 19 championship title which was earned through teamwork, determination, and dedication to 20 the sport of basketball. 21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 22 principal of Lafayette Christian Academy.
