SLS 17RS-315 ORIGINAL 2017 Regular Session SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 26 BY SENATOR WALSWORTH LEGIS POWERS/FUNCTIONS. Designates April 20, 2017, as Alzheimer's Awareness Day at the state capitol and expresses the continued support of the Louisiana Alzheimer's Disease Task Force's Final Report and the implementation of its recommendations. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To designate April 20, 2017, as Alzheimer's Awareness Day at the state capitol and express 3 the continued support of the Louisiana Alzheimer's Disease Task Force's Final 4 Report and the implementation of its recommendations. 5 WHEREAS, Alzheimer's disease takes a tremendous emotional toll on all whose 6 lives it touches, including family members, friends, and especially the caregivers of those 7 living with Alzheimer's disease; and 8 WHEREAS, more than sixty percent of Alzheimer's and dementia caregivers are 9 women; and 10 WHEREAS, in 2008, the Louisiana Alzheimer's Disease Task Force was established 11 by the legislature; and 12 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Alzheimer's Disease Task Force was comprised of 13 membership from the legislature, as well as representatives from interested community and 14 industry partners; and 15 WHEREAS, the task force, in accordance with its legislative charge, accomplished 16 the following: assessed the current and future impact of Alzheimer's disease on Louisianians; 17 examined the existing industries, services, and resources addressing the needs of persons 18 with Alzheimer's disease, their families, and caregivers; developed a strategy to mobilize a Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 26 SLS 17RS-315 ORIGINAL 1 state response to Alzheimer's disease; held public meetings and utilized technological means 2 to gather feedback from persons and families affected by Alzheimer's disease; submitted a 3 report of findings and recommendations to the legislature and the governor in the form of 4 a state Alzheimer's disease plan in October of 2009; and 5 WHEREAS, recommendations from the Louisiana Alzheimer's Disease Task Force 6 Final Report covered the following areas: infrastructure, data collection, education and 7 training, early detection and diagnosis, safety, services and facilities, and health coverage. 8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 9 recognize April 20, 2017, as "Alzheimer's Awareness Day" at the state capitol and expresses 10 continued support of the Louisiana Alzheimer's Disease Task Force's Final Report and the 11 renewed implementation of the Louisiana Alzheimer's Disease Task Force's Final Report, 12 in partnership with the Department of Health and the Alzheimer's Association's Louisiana 13 chapter. 14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that implementation of the task force report will 15 move Louisiana closer to becoming a dementia-capable state, better suited to handling the 16 fiscal, psychological, and social demands that Alzheimer's disease places on Louisiana 17 families. 18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 19 Department of Health and the Alzheimer's Association's Louisiana chapter.
