SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 49

LEGIS POWERS/FUNCTIONS. Recognizes May 13, 2017, as Louisiana Firefighters'
Appreciation Day and commends all firefighters across the state for their dedication to
public safety, and for their service to the citizens of Louisiana and the United States of
America.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To recognize May 13, 2017, as Louisiana Firefighters' Appreciation Day and commends all
3 firefighters across the state for their dedication to public safety, and for their service
4 to the citizens of Louisiana and the United States of America.
5 WHEREAS, firefighting is vital to the communities firefighters serve and critical to
6 the preservation of life and property; and
7 WHEREAS, communities in Louisiana recognize that firefighting is a dangerous
8 profession and firefighters can be subjected to acute exposure and the chronic effects of
9 dangerous elements as well as hazardous materials; and
10 WHEREAS, firefighters place their lives at risk to those elements and materials
11 whenever an emergency occurs and they are called upon to protect communities in
12 Louisiana; and
13 WHEREAS, firefighters in Louisiana have responded to all types of natural and
14 man-made disaster emergencies either in their respective communities or in communities
15 throughout the state and the United States; and
16 WHEREAS the people of Louisiana are engaged in partnership with firefighters in
17 the struggle to preserve life and property from the ravages of fire and other disasters as well
18 as the fire service's right to celebrate the proud history of the American fire service and the

1 sacrifices firefighters and their families have made for our communities across this great
2 nation.
3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
4 recognize May 13, 2017, as Louisiana Firefighters' Appreciation Day and commend all
5 firefighters across the state for their dedication to public safety, and for their service to the
6 citizens of Louisiana and the United States of America.
