SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 49

A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
To recognize May 13, 2017, as Louisiana Firefighters' Appreciation Day and commends all
firefighters across the state for their dedication to public safety, and for their service
to the citizens of Louisiana and the United States of America.
WHEREAS, firefighting is vital to the communities in which firefighters serve and
critical to the preservation of life and property; and
WHEREAS, communities in Louisiana recognize that firefighting is a dangerous
profession and firefighters can be subjected to acute exposure and the chronic effects of
dangerous elements as well as hazardous materials; and
WHEREAS, firefighters place their lives at risk to those elements and materials
whenever an emergency occurs and they are called upon to protect communities in
Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, firefighters in Louisiana have responded to all types of natural and
man-made disaster emergencies either in their respective communities or in communities
throughout the state and the United States; and
WHEREAS, the people of Louisiana are engaged in partnership with firefighters in
the struggle to preserve life and property from the ravages of fire and other disasters as well
as the fire service's right to celebrate the proud history of the American fire service and the
sacrifices firefighters and their families have made for our communities across this great
nation.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
recognize May 13, 2017, as Louisiana Firefighters' Appreciation Day and commend all

firefighters across the state for their dedication to public safety, and for their service to the
citizens of Louisiana and the United States of America.
