SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 68
BY SENATORS COLOMB, BARROW, HEWITT, MIZELL AND PETERSON AND
REPRESENTATIVES AMEDEE, CARPENTER, DAVIS, EMERSON,
HILFERTY, HILL, HODGES, HORTON, JACKSON, NANCY
LANDRY, MARCELLE, MORENO, NORTON, SMITH, STOKES,
THOMAS AND WHITE 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Tamiko Terraz Stroud on being selected to receive a
High School Women of Excellence Award and a Louisiana Legislative  Women's  Caucus
Foundation Scholarship.
1	A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend Tamiko Terraz Stroud on being selected to receive a High School Women of
3 Excellence Award and a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation
4 Scholarship.
5 WHEREAS, Tamiko Terraz Stroud is the daughter of Ira and Tamiko Garrison,
6 resides in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, and is a senior at Donaldsonville High School with a
7 4.2 grade point average; and
8 WHEREAS, she is dually enrolled in the Ascension Parish School Board's Early
9 College Option program at River Parishes Community College which affords Tamiko the
10 opportunity to simultaneously graduate with a high school diploma and an associate's degree
11 in arts and humanities; and
12 WHEREAS, while attending high school, Tamiko was a member of Gamma Beta Phi
13 Honor Society, National Honor Society, National Beta Club, National Society of High
14 School Scholars, track team, band, dance team, and she attended Louisiana Girls State; and
15 WHEREAS, in her community, she served as the president of Donaldsonville's
16 Mayor's Youth Advisory Council for three terms, a member and vice president of the
17 Louisiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council, a charter member and secretary of the
18 Young Voices of Ascension Gavel Club, and a charter member of National Congress of

1 Black Women Greater Baton Rouge Region; and
2 WHEREAS, in 2016, Tamiko was awarded the Louisiana Volunteer Service Award
3 by Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser and she was awarded scholarships from the Louisiana
4 Legislative Black Caucus, New Orleans Saintsations, Baton Rouge State Fair Foundation,
5 Dillard University, and Southern University Honor's College; and
6 WHEREAS, Tamiko was named the 2017 Student of the Year by Donaldsonville
7 High School, 2017 Teenager of the Year by Donaldsonville Area Chamber of Commerce,
8 Miss Sunshine 2017, Miss Donaldsonville Teen 2015, 2017 Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure
9 Club Maid, and a Top Jag by Southern University Alumni Federation; and
10 WHEREAS, in the summer of 2017, Tamiko will be presented as a debutante by the
11 Baton Rouge Delta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; and
12 WHEREAS, in the fall of 2017, she will attend Southern University Honor's College
13 with a double major in finance and English and upon obtaining her bachelor of science
14 degrees, Tamiko plans to acquire a juris doctor degree from Southern University's Law
15 Center and practice corporate law; and
16 WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics
17 of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are
18 committed to community service to better society as a whole; and
19 WHEREAS, for 2017, there are four categories for the Women of Excellence
20 Awards: College Women of Excellence, High School Women of Excellence, Louisiana Hero
21 of Excellence, and Nonprofit of Excellence; and
22 WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2017 Women of Excellence Awards are being
23 recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of
24 Excellence Awards & Scholarships Ceremony and Reception on Tuesday, May 9, 2017; and
25 WHEREAS, Tamiko has been named a recipient of a 2017 Women of Excellence
26 Award in the category of High School Women of Excellence and is also a recipient of a
27 Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship for her accomplishments
28 and personification of excellence in integrity, character, academics, leadership, and
29 community service; and
30 WHEREAS, Tamiko merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for her

1 dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and it is appropriate for the
2 Legislature of Louisiana to commend Tamiko upon receipt of a 2017 Women of Excellence
3 Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation and a Louisiana
4 Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship.
5 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
6 commend Tamiko Terraz Stroud upon receipt of a 2017 Women of Excellence Award from
7 the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of High School
8 Women of Excellence and the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation
9 Scholarship; does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular contributions to the
10 citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous
11 pride and honor that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana.
12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
13 Tamiko Terraz Stroud.
