SLS 17RS-797 ORIGINAL 2017 Regular Session SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 69 BY SENATORS COLOMB, BARROW, HEWITT, MIZELL AND PETERSON AND REPRESENTATIVES AMEDEE, CARPENTER, DAVIS, EMERSON, HILFERTY, HILL, HODGES, HORTON, JACKSON, NANCY LANDRY, MARCELLE, MORENO, NORTON, SMITH, STOKES, THOMAS AND WHITE COMMENDATIONS. To commend Kristen Blair Weimer on being selected to receive a High School Women of Excellence Award and a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend Kristen Blair Weimer on being selected to receive a High School Women of 3 Excellence Award and a Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation 4 Scholarship. 5 WHEREAS, Kristen Blair Weimer is the daughter of Katherine and Philip Weimer 6 Jr. and attends Edward Douglas White Catholic High School in Raceland, Louisiana; and 7 WHEREAS, love for leadership and service to others began at a very young age and 8 4-H has always played an important role in her life; and 9 WHEREAS, Kristen served as secretary, vice president, and president of her 10 elementary and high school 4-H clubs, and served as a member of the Louisiana State 4-H 11 Science, Engineering and Technology State Board, currently serves as its vice president, and 12 also serves as the 4-H Executive Board President for Lafourche Parish; and 13 WHEREAS, she is an active participant and competitor in her state 4-H shooting 14 sports team and earned a spot on the state and national Youth Hunter Education Challenge 15 (YHEC) shooting team; and 16 WHEREAS, Kristen is skilled in archery and shooting sports disciplines, has been 17 named the YHEC State Orienteering Winner along with the YHEC State Hunters Safety Test 18 Overall Winner, and also received various awards in archery; and Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 69 SLS 17RS-797 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, raised on a sugarcane farm, she is aware of the importance of the sugar 2 industry and was named the Louisiana 4-H State Sugar Ambassador, serving as an advocate 3 and educating youth about the industry and its importance to our state economy; and 4 WHEREAS, Kristen also serves as vice president of the Lafourche Parish Junior 5 Leader Club where she led several service projects, including working with the Court 6 Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) organization, Operation Christmas Child, local animal 7 shelters, and is currently working on a project called "Caring for our Coast"; and 8 WHEREAS, Kristen was awarded the Prudential Spirit Award for her leadership and 9 service to her community, currently serves as her high school choir president, is a member 10 of the track team, Ecology Club, Campus Ministry, Music Ministry, Science Olympiad 11 Team, and National Honor Society; and 12 WHEREAS, despite her involvement in school and community organizations, she 13 has maintained a 3.89 GPA throughout her high school career, is the recipient of the Saint 14 Michael's Book Award for Leadership and Service, and received the Key Club award for 15 outstanding leadership in her community; and 16 WHEREAS, Kristen plans to pursue a career in veterinary medicine where she will 17 continue to remain active in agriculture and serve her community and the animals they love; 18 and 19 WHEREAS, she will attend Nicholls State University in the fall where she will study 20 biology with a concentration in Pre-Veterinary Medicine; and 21 WHEREAS, recipients of the Women of Excellence Awards exhibit characteristics 22 of integrity and professionalism, personify excellence in their area of specialty, and are 23 committed to community service to better society as a whole; and 24 WHEREAS, for 2017, there are four categories for the Women of Excellence 25 Awards: College Women of Excellence, High School Women of Excellence, Louisiana Hero 26 of Excellence, and Nonprofit of Excellence; and 27 WHEREAS, the recipients of the 2017 Women of Excellence Awards are being 28 recognized at the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation's Women of 29 Excellence Awards & Scholarships Ceremony and Reception on Tuesday, May 9, 2017; and 30 WHEREAS, Kristen has been named a recipient of a 2017 Women of Excellence Page 2 of 3 SCR NO. 69 SLS 17RS-797 ORIGINAL 1 Award in the category of High School Women of Excellence and is also a recipient of a 2 Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship for her accomplishments 3 and personification of excellence in integrity, character, academics, leadership, and 4 community service; and 5 WHEREAS, Kristen merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for her 6 dedication to excellence and her outstanding accomplishments, and it is appropriate for the 7 Legislature of Louisiana to commend Kristen upon receipt of a 2017 Women of Excellence 8 Award from the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation and of a Louisiana 9 Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation Scholarship. 10 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 11 commend Kristen Blair Weimer upon receipt of a 2017 Women of Excellence Award from 12 the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation in the category of High School 13 Women of Excellence and the Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus Foundation 14 Scholarship; does hereby recognize and record for posterity her singular contributions to the 15 citizens of Louisiana; and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the tremendous 16 pride and honor that she brings to her community and the state of Louisiana. 17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 18 Kristen Blair Weimer.
