SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 7

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Fairfield Elementary Magnet School of Shreveport on
receipt of the 2016-2018 National Parent Teacher Association School of Excellence Award.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2 To commend and congratulate the faculty, students, and Parent Teacher Association of
3 Fairfield Elementary Magnet School of Shreveport upon receipt of the 2016-2018
4 National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) School of Excellence Award.
5 WHEREAS, the National PTA, the largest volunteer child advocacy organization in
6 the United States, recognizes Fairfield Elementary and the Fairfield PTA for its
7 achievements in construction of effective lines of communication and in production of
8 successful partnerships between administrators, teachers, students, family members, and
9 business leaders; and
10 WHEREAS, the efforts of the Fairfield PTA include the use of social media
11 applications to provide a nearly constant dialogue between teachers and parents and to
12 address student achievement, curriculum choice, study infrastructure, and testing analysis,
13 as well as the connectivity of positive parental involvement in the social and academic
14 ecology of this outstanding elementary school; and
15 WHEREAS, the school's administration maintains a website to facilitate lines of
16 communication for individual teachers, a public Facebook page, and several private pages
17 for "Fairfield families only"; and
18 WHEREAS, these interactions contribute to the overall positive achievement of the

1 individual student and to overall academic improvement within the institution, which, in the
2 long term, encourages growth within the community; and
3 WHEREAS, Fairfield PTA strengthens family-school bonds by assembling
4 committee volunteers to coordinate various activities within the school year that include
5 Artbreak, Auction/Spring Fling, Building and Grounds Beautification, Carnival, Cheer and
6 School Spirit, D.A.D.S. Club, Faculty/Staff Appreciation, Grandparents Day, Healthy Habits
7 for Healthy Kids, Hospitality, Room Parent Coordinator, and Yearbook, to name just a few
8 opportunities; and
9 WHEREAS, among these many innovative activities that welcome parents to interact
10 on campus, fathers and male role models are encouraged to participate in D.A.D.S. Club
11 (Directing Awesome & Dedicated Students); and
12 WHEREAS, Fairfield PTA president, Melanie Peacock, articulates that the overall
13 outcome of the organization is facilitation of meaningful two-way communication between
14 families and school and improvement in educational opportunities for each student in a
15 healthy and safe environment while expanding opportunities for artistic and cultural
16 exploration; and
17 WHEREAS, Fairfield Elementary Magnet School is an exceptional institution of
18 learning whose primary focus is the preparation of its student body for successful careers in
19 the future; it is a five-star rated school that promotes the Science, Technology, Engineering,
20 and Mathematics (STEM) curricula and retains an extraordinary teaching and counseling
21 staff; and
22 WHEREAS, Fairfield Elementary has been honored with copious awards in the field
23 of education for outstanding teachers of the year and for recognition of student scholastic
24 achievement, artistic talent, and musical accomplishment; and
25 WHEREAS, Fairfield Elementary Magnet is proud to be one of two schools in
26 Louisiana to receive this extraordinary designation.
27 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
28 commend and congratulate the faculty, students, and Parent Teacher Association of Fairfield
29 Elementary Magnet School of Shreveport upon receipt of the 2016-2018 National Parent
30 Teacher Association (PTA) School of Excellence Award.

1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
2 Pam Graham, principal of Fairfield Elementary Magnet School.
