SLS 17RS-467 ORIGINAL 2017 Regular Session SENATE CONCURRENT RESOL UTION NO. 8 BY SENATOR PEACOCK COMMENDATIONS. Commends the Foster Grandparent Volunteer Program for its thirty- six years of exceptional community service performed on behalf of the special needs of youth residing in the parishes of Caddo and Bossier. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend the Foster Grandparent Volunteer Program for its thirty-six years of 3 exceptional community service performed on behalf of the special needs of youth 4 residing in the parishes of Caddo and Bossier. 5 WHEREAS, the Foster Grandparent Volunteer Program is sponsored by the Caddo 6 Council on Aging, Inc. and is federally funded by the Corporation for National and 7 Community Service-National Senior Corps; and 8 WHEREAS, this nationwide program offers senior adults, aged fifty-five years and 9 older, an opportunity to contribute to their community as mentors, tutors, and caregivers for 10 children with special needs through a network of various organizations; and 11 WHEREAS, these volunteers provide extraordinary services that address numerous 12 social issues with positive outcomes such as, enhanced employment skills for economically 13 disadvantaged youth, improved behavioral conduct and educational results for students with 14 special needs, familial support for abused or neglected children, and emotional support for 15 children of veterans and deployed military service personnel; and 16 WHEREAS, the Foster Grandparent Volunteer Program couples the willingness of 17 senior citizens with their capacity to devote time, experience, and compassion to better 18 prepare these children for the future ahead; and Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 8 SLS 17RS-467 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, for nearly four decades, this program of very special volunteers 2 continues to fulfill its mission to provide much needed guidance and support to 3 disadvantaged youth and exceptional children. 4 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 5 commend the Foster Grandparent Volunteer Program for thirty-six years of exceptional 6 community service on behalf of special needs children in Caddo and Bossier parishes. 7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend 8 best wishes and continued success to the coordinators and participants of the Caddo Council 9 on Aging. 10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 11 Caddo Council on Aging, Foster Grandparent Program manager, Neva Jones.
