"Bud" Mapes upon his induction into the Louisiana Political Museum and Hall of Fame. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend posthumously Maurice L. "Bud" Mapes on his induction into the Louisiana 3 Political Museum and Hall of Fame. 4 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Political Museum and Hall of Fame was created by an 5 Act of the Louisiana Legislature in 1987 as a state museum dedicated to the preservation of 6 the history of Louisiana politics; and 7 WHEREAS, the Hall of Fame Induction Banquet was held on Saturday, March 11, 8 2017, at the Louisiana Political Museum in Winnfield; and 9 WHEREAS, Maurice L. "Bud" Mapes was posthumously honored as an inductee at 10 the banquet; and 11 WHEREAS, a native of Ozark, Missouri, and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, 12 he was born on July 8, 1930; and 13 WHEREAS, he attended public school in Ozark; Drury College and Southwest 14 Missouri State College in Springfield, Missouri; the University of Missouri in Columbia, 15 Missouri; and Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan; and he was a member 16 of Sigma Nu Fraternity; and 17 WHEREAS, during the Korean War, Mr. Mapes volunteered to serve in the United 18 States Air Force and did so proudly from January 1951 until March of 1955, and in 1960, Page 1 of 2 SCR NO. 80 SLS 17RS-980 ORIGINAL 1 made his home in Baton Rouge; and 2 WHEREAS, he served with honor and distinction as a lobbyist, and some of his 3 clients included Louisiana Farm Bureau, Southwestern Lumberman's Association, Louisiana 4 Finance Association, 3M Company, Entergy, Cole-National Corp., Louisiana Retailers 5 Association, Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association, and Louisiana Building Material 6 Dealers Association; and 7 WHEREAS, during his remarkable career as a lobbyist, he worked with eight of 8 Louisiana's governors beginning with Earl Long and ending with Kathleen Babineaux 9 Blanco and throughout his career, he lived out his lifelong motto, "What is the right thing 10 to do?"; and 11 WHEREAS, he never retired and remained passionate about his family, clients, and 12 the great state of Louisiana until his death, Maurice L. "Bud" Mapes has rightly earned a 13 place in Louisiana's political history next to the many legends previously inducted into the 14 Louisiana Political Museum and Hall of Fame. 15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Louisiana Legislature does hereby 16 posthumously commend Maurice L. "Bud" Mapes upon his induction into the Louisiana 17 Political Museum and Hall of Fame and for his distinguished career. 18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 19 family of Maurice L.
