SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 102

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Dr. Pierce D. Nunley on his exemplary career as a
physician and his outstanding achievements in the practice of spine surgery which have
benefited countless patients throughout his career.

2 To commend and congratulate Dr. Pierce D. Nunley on his exemplary career as a physician
3 and his outstanding achievements in the practice of spine surgery which have
4 benefitted countless patients throughout his career.
5 WHEREAS, Dr. Pierce D. Nunley graduated with honors from the University of
6 Kansas Medical College in Kansas City, Kansas; and
7 WHEREAS, Dr. Nunley completed his internship and residency at Louisiana State
8 University Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana; and
9 WHEREAS, Dr. Nunley completed his spine fellowship at the University of Basel
10 in Switzerland and the University of Texas Southwestern Dallas Spine Group and received
11 specialized training at the Mississippi Sports Medicine Center in Jackson; and
12 WHEREAS, Dr. Nunley obtained board certification from the American Board of
13 Spine Surgery and American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons; and
14 WHEREAS, Dr. Nunley is licensed to practice medicine in Louisiana, Texas, and
15 Missouri; and
16 WHEREAS, Dr. Nunley is a distinguished member, fellow, or board member of
17 numerous professional groups and societies including the American Academy of
18 Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, American College of Spine Surgery,

1 Southern Orthopaedic Association, Louisiana State Medical Society, and Spine Institute of
2 Louisiana Foundation; and
3 WHEREAS, Dr. Nunley brings international experience to his position as the director
4 of the Spine Institute of Louisiana in Shreveport and as a clinical instructor and assistant
5 professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the LSU Health Sciences Center in
6 Shreveport; and
7 WHEREAS, Dr. Nunley is a respected author and academic who has published in
8 numerous journals and books, and has presented papers in Canada, Mexico, and Italy, as
9 well as throughout the United States; and
10 WHEREAS, he has invented, pioneered, and initiated innovative methods of spine
11 surgery that have helped transform the practice of spinal surgery worldwide and is globally
12 recognized as a brilliant and intrepid innovator in methods of spinal surgery; and
13 WHEREAS, in the more than twenty years since he obtained his medical degree,
14 Dr. Nunley has thoughtfully and compassionately impacted the lives of countless patients
15 and families who have loved ones with spinal disorders in a way that only someone of his
16 integrity and expertise can do; and
17 WHEREAS, Dr. Nunley is musically accomplished in voice, piano, guitar, and violin
18 performance and composition and fully engaged in giving to his community.
19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
20 hereby commends and congratulates Dr. Pierce D. Nunley on his exemplary career as a
21 physician and his outstanding achievements in the practice of spine surgery.
22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that deepest gratitude is hereby extended to
23 Dr. Nunley for his unyielding commitment to the medical community, the practice of spine
24 surgery, and the health of his patients.
25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
26 Dr. Pierce D. Nunley.
