SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 102

A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Dr. Pierce D. Nunley on his exemplary career as a physician
and his outstanding achievements in the practice of spine surgery which have
benefitted countless patients throughout his career.
WHEREAS, Dr. Pierce D. Nunley graduated with honors from the University of
Kansas Medical College in Kansas City, Kansas; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nunley completed his internship and residency at Louisiana State
University Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nunley completed his spine fellowship at the University of Basel
in Switzerland and the University of Texas Southwestern Dallas Spine Group and received
specialized training at the Mississippi Sports Medicine Center in Jackson; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nunley obtained board certification from the American Board of
Spine Surgery and American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nunley is licensed to practice medicine in Louisiana, Texas, and
Missouri; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nunley is a distinguished member, fellow, or board member of
numerous professional groups and societies including the American Academy of
Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, American College of Spine Surgery,
Southern Orthopaedic Association, Louisiana State Medical Society, and Spine Institute of
Louisiana Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nunley brings international experience to his position as the director
of the Spine Institute of Louisiana in Shreveport and as a clinical instructor and assistant
professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the LSU Health Sciences Center in
Shreveport; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nunley is a respected author and academic who has published in
numerous journals and books, and has presented papers in Canada, Mexico, and Italy, as
well as throughout the United States; and

WHEREAS, he has invented, pioneered, and initiated innovative methods of spine
surgery that have helped transform the practice of spinal surgery worldwide and is globally
recognized as a brilliant and intrepid innovator in methods of spinal surgery; and
WHEREAS, in the more than twenty years since he obtained his medical degree,
Dr. Nunley has thoughtfully and compassionately impacted the lives of countless patients
and families who have loved ones with spinal disorders in a way that only someone of his
integrity and expertise can do; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nunley is musically accomplished in voice, piano, guitar, and violin
performance and composition and fully engaged in giving to his community.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
hereby commends and congratulates Dr. Pierce D. Nunley on his exemplary career as a
physician and his outstanding achievements in the practice of spine surgery.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that deepest gratitude is hereby extended to
Dr. Nunley for his unyielding commitment to the medical community, the practice of spine
surgery, and the health of his patients.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Dr. Pierce D. Nunley.
