SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 107

SENATE. Expresses the establishment of the Rose Landry Long Louisiana Senate
Scholarship.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To express the establishment of the Rose Landry Long Louisiana Senate Scholarship.
3 WHEREAS, Rose Landry Long was the first member of her family to attend college
4 and she always placed a high priority on education, especially for those who lacked
5 opportunities to attend college; and
6 WHEREAS, in her memory, the Rose Landry Long Louisiana Senate Scholarship
7 will be established; and
8 WHEREAS, the goal of the Rose Landry Long Louisiana Senate Scholarship will be
9 to give at least two scholarships a year starting in the fall of 2017; and
10 WHEREAS, the scholarship will be limited to incoming freshmen who are the first
11 in their family to attend college; and
12 WHEREAS, members of the Senate are encouraged to provide the names of eligible
13 students from their respective districts; and
14 WHEREAS, for the first year, a scholarship of at least two hundred fifty dollars will
15 be awarded to an eligible student from each senatorial district whose name is submitted by
16 the respective senator; and
17 WHEREAS, in order to continue to receive the scholarship, a scholarship recipient
18 will have to maintain at least a 2.5 GPA and be in good standing with the university or

1 college the student is attending.
2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana that
3 the establishment of the Rose Landry Long Louisiana Senate Scholarship is hereby
4 expressed.
