Designates May 31, 2017, as 4-H Day at the legislature and commends the state 4-H officers. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To designate May 31, 2017, as "4-H Day" at the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana and 3 commends the state 4-H officers. 4 WHEREAS, 4-H is the largest youth development organization, empowering more 5 than six million young people throughout the United States of America; and 6 WHEREAS, through America's land-grant universities, 4-H reaches every corner of 7 the United States, from urban neighborhoods to suburban schoolyards to rural farming 8 communities; and 9 WHEREAS, 4-H represents head, heart, hands, and health as core values of all 10 members, ages eight to eighteen, and works to develop each through engaging programs; and 11 WHEREAS, the Louisiana main office of 4-H is the premier youth development 12 program of the Louisiana State University (LSU) AgCenter Cooperative Extension System, 13 and includes clubs, camps, and after school programs that help members become responsible 14 citizens leading healthy and productive lives; and 15 WHEREAS, with a network of more than six million that includes more than five 16 hundred thousand volunteers, more than three thousand professionals, and more than 17 twenty-five million alumni; and 18 WHEREAS, 4-H helps to shape our country's youth in ways that no other youth Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 130 SLS 17RS-1366 ORIGINAL 1 organization does; it empowers all members to reach their full potential, working and 2 learning in partnership with caring adults, and growing together as catalysts for positive 3 change; and 4 WHEREAS, 4-H'ers engage in hands-on learning activities in the areas of science, 5 citizenship, and healthy living; and 6 WHEREAS, 4-H girls are two times more likely in grade ten, and nearly three times 7 more likely in grade twelve, to take part in science programs; 4-H boys and girls are four 8 times more likely to contribute to their communities, including academic achievement and 9 civic engagement; and 10 WHEREAS, the 4-H program is enhanced by leading corporations, foundations, and 11 organizations, whose support allows the development of cutting-edge models for young 12 people to learn real-world skills that will better prepare them for the challenges of today and 13 tomorrow; and 14 WHEREAS, the national 4-H social networks and social media communities are 15 managed by the National 4-H Council, and help to further first-of-its-kind research projects 16 to reveal how young people benefit from life-changing experiences; and 17 WHEREAS, the state 4-H officers are Jill Wiltz, president; Brittney Lea, vice 18 president; Taylor Goss, secretary; Stanley Celestine Jr., historian/reporter; and Patrick 19 Cormier, parliamentarian; and 20 WHEREAS, each officer works with the entire membership to improve their heads 21 for managing and clearer thinking, their hearts for caring and greater loyalty, their hands for 22 giving and enlarging service, and their health to better living, all done for their club, their 23 community, their country, and their world. 24 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 25 does hereby designate May 31, 2017, as "4-H Day" at the legislature and commends the state 26 4-H officers. 27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 28 4-H state president, Jill Wiltz.
