Commends Alyssa Carson on her accomplishments. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend Alyssa Carson on her many accomplishments. 3 WHEREAS, since Alyssa Carson was a little girl, she had her heart set on the stars; 4 and 5 WHEREAS, at the tender age of three, she told her daddy that she wanted to be an 6 astronaut and go to Mars; and 7 WHEREAS, by the age of sixteen, Alyssa had witnessed three space shuttle launches, 8 attended space camp seven times, the Space Academy three times, the Robotics Academy 9 once, was the youngest to graduate from the Advanced Space Academy, and participated in 10 several Sally Ride Science Camps; and 11 WHEREAS, in 2012 and 2013, she furthered her education at Space Camp Turkey 12 and Space Camp Canada, becoming the first person to attend all three National Aeronautics 13 and Space Administration (NASA) space camps worldwide; and 14 WHEREAS, Alyssa is also the first and only person to complete the NASA Passport 15 to Explore Space program, visiting all fourteen NASA visitor centers stretching across nine 16 states; and 17 WHEREAS, in January 2013, NASA invited her to be on the MER 10 panel in 18 Washington, DC, via a live broadcast on NASA Television to discuss future missions to Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 131 SLS 17RS-1799 ORIGINAL 1 Mars; and 2 WHEREAS, Alyssa was later selected as one of seven ambassadors representing 3 Mars One, a mission to establish a human colony on Mars in 2030; and 4 WHEREAS, in October 2016, she was the youngest person to be accepted to, and 5 graduate from, the Advanced PoSSUM Academy, officially making her an astronaut trainee 6 and certified to go into space; and 7 WHEREAS, Alyssa is driven by an insatiable desire to live life to the fullest, break 8 through the ceiling of possibilities, and make a positive and lasting impact on the world; and 9 WHEREAS, it is fitting to herald the achievements of Louisiana's accomplished 10 youth like Alyssa Carson, a model student and citizen who represents the best and brightest 11 of the state. 12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 13 does hereby commend and congratulate Alyssa Carson on her many accomplishments and 14 does hereby wish her continued success in all future endeavors. 15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 16 Alyssa Carson.
