SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 133
BY SENATOR GARY SMITH 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends the Riverside Academy boys baseball team upon
winning the LHSAA Division III state championship.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend and congratulate the Riverside Academy Rebels and its players and coaches
3 on winning the 2017 Allstate Sugar Bowl/Louisiana High School Athletic
4 Association Division III baseball state championship.
5 WHEREAS, the Riverside Academy Rebels baseball team completed a sensational
6 regular season with an overall record of 35-11-0 and with a record of 6-2-0 in Class 2A
7 District 12 play; and
8 WHEREAS, during the tournament on Saturday, May 13, 2017, in the Division III
9 bracket, number four seed Riverside Academy Rebels of Reserve bested number two seed
10 Ouachita Christian Eagles of Monroe by a stunning shutout with a score of 2-0 at McMurry
11 Park in Sulphur, Louisiana; and
12 WHEREAS, Head Coach Frank Cazeaux, along with assistant coaches Johnny
13 Collins, Johnny Owens, and Paul Wineski, has instilled in these young athletes the winning
14 attitude necessary to become exceptional baseball players, accomplished academics, and
15 outstanding members of the community and together they strived to capture the Class 2A
16 title; and
17 WHEREAS, the members of this outstanding varsity squad include Noah Bailey,
18 Payton Bailey, Patrick Boudreaux, Zachary Breaud, Trey Catoire, Ty Cazeaux,

1 Colton Duhon, Dane Edler, Anthony Fernandez, Zachary Gieger, Jared Hymel, Hunter
2 Landry, Tanner Louque, Jordan Loving, Heath Mohon, Braedon Montz, Conner Poche,
3 Shaine Tregre, Gavin Vicknair, Mason Vicknair, Devon Watson, and Colby Wilson; and
4 WHEREAS, senior pitcher Mason Vicknair scattered seven hits in a complete game
5 shutout; he struck out six and walked four and was named Most Valuable Player; and
6 WHEREAS, this year's achievement gives Riverside Academy its third baseball
7 championship in school history with previous titles won in 1995 and 2006; and
8 WHEREAS, the Riverside Academy Rebels varsity baseball team has earned these
9 well-deserved accolades that exemplify their extraordinary athletic ability, uncommon work
10 ethic, and unselfish dedication to each other, particularly at the most demanding level of
11 state competition.
12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
13 does hereby commend the Riverside Academy Rebels baseball team and their coaches upon
14 the occasion of their 2017 Allstate Sugar Bowl/Louisiana High School Athletic Association
15 Division III state championship.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of Legislature of Louisiana does
17 hereby express its sincere congratulations to the team and to the coaching staff for
18 accomplishing such high honors for themselves, for Riverside Academy, and for the state
19 of Louisiana.
20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
21 Head Coach Frank Cazeaux and Athletic Director Timmy Byrd of Riverside Academy.
