SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 133

A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate the Riverside Academy Rebels and coaches on winning the
2017 Allstate Sugar Bowl/Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division III
baseball state championship.
WHEREAS, the Riverside Academy Rebels baseball team completed a sensational
regular season with an overall record of 35-11-0 and with a record of 6-2-0 in Class 2A
District 12 play; and
WHEREAS, during the tournament on Saturday, May 13, 2017, in the Division III
bracket, number four seed Riverside Academy Rebels of Reserve bested number two seed
Ouachita Christian Eagles of Monroe by a stunning shutout with a score of 2-0 at McMurry
Park in Sulphur, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Frank Cazeaux, along with assistant coaches Johnny
Collins, Johnny Owens, and Paul Wineski, has instilled in these young athletes the winning
attitude necessary to become exceptional baseball players, accomplished academics, and
outstanding members of the community and together they strived to capture the Class 2A
title; and
WHEREAS, the members of this outstanding varsity squad include Noah Bailey,
Payton Bailey, Patrick Boudreaux, Zachary Breaud, Trey Catoire, Ty Cazeaux,
Colton Duhon, Dane Edler, Anthony Fernandez, Zachary Gieger, Jared Hymel, Hunter
Landry, Tanner Louque, Jordan Loving, Heath Mohon, Braedon Montz, Conner Poche,
Shaine Tregre, Gavin Vicknair, Mason Vicknair, Devon Watson, and Colby Wilson; and
WHEREAS, senior pitcher Mason Vicknair scattered seven hits in a complete game
shutout; he struck out six and walked four and was named Most Valuable Player; and
WHEREAS, this year's achievement gives Riverside Academy its third baseball
championship in school history with previous titles won in 1995 and 2006; and

WHEREAS, the Riverside Academy Rebels varsity baseball team has earned these
well-deserved accolades that exemplify their extraordinary athletic ability, uncommon work
ethic, and unselfish dedication to each other, particularly at the most demanding level of
state competition.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend the Riverside Academy Rebels baseball team and coaches upon the
occasion of their 2017 Allstate Sugar Bowl/Louisiana High School Athletic Association
Division III state championship.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of Legislature of Louisiana does
hereby express its sincere congratulations to the team and to the coaching staff for
accomplishing such high honors for themselves, for Riverside Academy, and for the state
of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Head Coach Frank Cazeaux and Athletic Director Timmy Byrd of Riverside Academy.
