SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 136

CONGRESS. Memorializes Congress to review federal laws, rules, regulations, and
procedures to ensure that veterans and their family members have convenient access to
military service and medical records.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To memorialize the Congress of the United States to review federal laws, rules, regulations,
3 and procedures to ensure that veterans and their family members have convenient
4 access to military service and medical records.
5 WHEREAS, veterans of the United States armed forces have earned the respect,
6 admiration, and gratitude of the state of Louisiana and its citizens; and
7 WHEREAS, the freedom and liberties we are blessed to enjoy today are a direct
8 result of the courage, devotion, and sacrifice of the members of our armed forces; and
9 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize their unwavering selflessness and courage
10 by giving due consideration to all laws meant to protect and assist those veterans and their
11 families; and
12 WHEREAS, in order to apply for certain military benefits, veterans or family
13 members need access to military service or medical records to fill out the application forms
14 and to meet the requirements to apply for the benefits; and
15 WHEREAS, when these veterans or family members need our assistance in accessing
16 their military service or medical records, federal laws, rules, regulations, and procedures
17 should be simple to navigate in order to obtain these records.
18 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana

1 memorializes the Congress of the United States to review federal laws, rules, regulations,
2 and procedures to ensure that veterans and their family members have convenient access to
3 military service and medical records.
4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution shall be transmitted
5 to the secretary of the United States Senate, the clerk of the United States House of
6 Representatives, and to each member of the Louisiana delegation to the United States
7 Congress.
