SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 156

COMMENDATIONS.  Commends the Louisiana Business Incubation Association.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To commend the Louisiana Business Incubation Association for its contributions to the
3 economic prosperity of Louisiana and its businesses.
4 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Business Incubation Association (LBIA) is a state
5 association of business incubators and their supporters; LBIA was established in 1990 to
6 promote alliances among incubators, governmental agencies, and economic development
7 professionals to promote the growth and diversification of our state's businesses and
8 economy; and
9 WHEREAS, business incubators are an economic development tool designed to
10 accelerate the growth and success of entrepreneurial companies and to reduce the risk of
11 small business failures; and
12 WHEREAS, LBIA has helped inform communities about the importance of
13 incubation, and the association remains one of the state's strongest supporters of small
14 business in Louisiana; and
15 WHEREAS, LBIA provides the basis for mutually supportive business incubation
16 for its members, provides a vehicle to establish connections with community and economic
17 development organizations, improves the business climate for the incubator industry and
18 client firms, removes barriers to incubator and business growth, provides hands-on

1 management to help accelerate the development and growth of new businesses, and works
2 to build a business environment that supports new companies; and
3 WHEREAS, the goals of the LBIA are to create new and better jobs for Louisiana
4 citizens and help make local economies more robust; and
5 WHEREAS, the International Business Incubation Association estimates that in 2005
6 alone, North American incubators assisted more than twenty-seven thousand start-up
7 companies that provided full-time employment for more than one hundred thousand workers
8 and generated annual revenue of more than seventeen billion dollars.
9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
10 does hereby commend the Louisiana Business Incubation Association for its contributions
11 to the economic prosperity of Louisiana and its businesses.
12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
13 Louisiana Business Incubation Association.
