SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 160

A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Yellow Pine Christian Church on the occasion of its one
hundred fifteenth anniversary.
WHEREAS, Yellow Pine Christian Church, formerly Union Church, has been the
anchor of Yellow Pine Community since it was built one hundred fifteen years ago in 1902;
and 
WHEREAS, over the years, it has been renovated, remodeled, and added to the
National Register for Historic Places on January 25, 1995; and 
WHEREAS, Yellow Pine Christian Church, located at 742 Yellow Pine Road in
Sibley, Louisiana, started with forty-five members and its first pastor was Rev. Claude L.
Jones; and 
WHEREAS, in 1948, Rev. Elmer Burton became the full-time pastor and was
succeeded by Glenn Crow in 1950, Jimmy Simmons in 1956, L.C. Reese in 1958, Johnny
Beasley in 1961, E.R. Bawson in 1962, Glenn Crow in 1965, Dr. C. E. Poole in 1973,
Ronald Patton in 1984, Glenn Crow in 1987, Tom Brown in 1994, Vance Moore in 2012,
co-pastors, Ben and Theresa Booth in 2014 to 2016, and currently interim pastor, Melvin
Fletcher; and
WHEREAS, although the church has been through a complete restoration, nothing
has changed, and it stands basically the same as one hundred fifteen years ago; and 
WHEREAS, Yellow Pine Christian Church is truly a beautiful antique treasure in
Webster Parish and remains a wonderful historic monument to the past of Louisiana with
no others to rival it in the state; and
WHEREAS, Yellow Pine Christian Church has an incredible history that has
required hard work, prayerful and faithful hearts, brotherly love, and cooperation to continue
to grow and flourish through the difficulties and adversities the church and its members have
endured; and

WHEREAS, it is appropriate to congratulate Yellow Pine Christian Church and its
congregation of sixty-six members as they celebrate one hundred fifteen years of grace and
community service.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and recognize Yellow Pine Christian Church on the one hundred
fifteenth anniversary of the church and does hereby express appreciation to the members of
the church congregation for their many years of commitment to a tradition of faith, growth,
and service.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Yellow Pine Christian Church.
