SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 184

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Deputy Bradford Allen Garafola Sr. of the East Baton
Rouge Sheriff's Office on being the recipient of the 2017 Deputy Valor Award presented by
the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association posthumously.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Deputy Bradford Allen Garafola Sr. of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's
3 Office on being the recipient of the 2017 Deputy Valor Award presented by the
4 Louisiana Sheriffs' Association posthumously.
5 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association presents the Deputy Valor Award
6 to recognize a deputy sheriff based on that officer's performance above and beyond the call
7 of duty and any extreme life-threatening acts of bravery; and
8 WHEREAS, on July 17, 2016, Deputy Bradford Allen Garafola Sr., a deputy sheriff
9 with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office and a twenty-four year veteran with the
10 office, responded to a call of a man with a rifle; and
11 WHEREAS, Deputy Garafola proceeded into gunfire attempting to stop the threat
12 and confronted the suspect after the suspect had shot and killed two fellow officers; and
13 WHEREAS, Deputy Garafola went above and beyond the call of duty, making the
14 ultimate sacrifice when he lost his life while attempting to aid fellow fallen officers and
15 protect the community; and
16 WHEREAS, Deputy Garafola's exemplary act of bravery is a true testament, not only
17 to his character and integrity, but also to his chosen profession; and
18 WHEREAS, Deputy Garafola merits the highest commendation for his exemplary

1 public service and for his outstanding contributions to the state of Louisiana and its citizens.
2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
3 does hereby recognize the bravery in the face of imminent danger and tireless dedication and
4 service to the citizens of East Baton Rouge Parish by Deputy Brad Garafola, recipient of the
5 2017 Deputy Valor Award of the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association posthumously.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
7 family of Deputy Bradford Allen Garafola Sr.
