2017 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 184 BY SENATOR ALARIO A RESOLUTION To commend Deputy Bradford Allen Garafola Sr. of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office on being the recipient of the 2017 Deputy Valor Award presented by the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association posthumously. WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association presents the Deputy Valor Award to recognize a deputy sheriff based on that officer's performance above and beyond the call of duty and any extreme life-threatening acts of bravery; and WHEREAS, on July 17, 2016, Deputy Bradford Allen Garafola Sr., a deputy sheriff with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office and a twenty-four year veteran with the office, responded to a call of a man with a rifle; and WHEREAS, Deputy Garafola proceeded into gunfire attempting to stop the threat and confronted the suspect after the suspect had shot and killed two fellow officers; and WHEREAS, Deputy Garafola went above and beyond the call of duty, making the ultimate sacrifice when he lost his life while attempting to aid fellow fallen officers and protect the community; and WHEREAS, Deputy Garafola's exemplary act of bravery is a true testament, not only to his character and integrity, but also to his chosen profession; and WHEREAS, Deputy Garafola merits the highest commendation for his exemplary public service and for his outstanding contributions to the state of Louisiana and its citizens. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize the bravery in the face of imminent danger and tireless dedication and service to the citizens of East Baton Rouge Parish by Deputy Brad Garafola, recipient of the 2017 Deputy Valor Award of the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association posthumously.
