2017 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 187 BY SENATORS CLAITOR AND WHITE A RESOLUTION To commend the Episcopal High School Knights boys and girls track teams on winning the 2017 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 2A state outdoor championship titles. WHEREAS, the Episcopal High School Knights boys and girls track teams excelled in the 2017 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 2A state outdoor track meet; and WHEREAS, it was the fourth consecutive championship title for the boys and the girls teams; and WHEREAS, the boys competed in eight events that reached the podium; and WHEREAS, they placed third in several events, including Trevor Babcock in the 800 meter; the 4x400 relay team of Trevor Babcock, Hunter Wendt, Graham Frazier, and Jacob DeWitt; Jonah Mayes in the long jump, and Kevin Tripeaux in the high jump; and WHEREAS, a second place honor went to Kevin Tripeaux in the long jump; and WHEREAS, the 4x800 relay team of Todd McInnis, Jacob DeWitt, Austin Broussard, and Michael Lee scored an unprecedented 78.5 points and took home the championship title for the second consecutive year; and WHEREAS, during the outdoor season, the Knights won the district championship for the thirty-eighth time and the regional meet for the thirty-third time; and WHEREAS, the Knights qualified eighteen spots and won the state meet for the fourth consecutive year, earning them their fourteenth outdoor state title; and WHEREAS, eleven performances reached the podium, including third place finishes which included Kenny Shafer in the 1600 meter and Graham Frazier in the 3200 meter; and Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 187 ENROLLED WHEREAS, second place performances went to the 4x100 relay team of Raymond Gould, Austin Jemison, Alex Harrison, and Austin Garrido; and WHEREAS, standing on the podium as state champions were Graham Frazier in the 1600 meter; Trevor Babcock in the 800 meter; Caden Dickinson in the 300 hurdles; the 4x400 relay team of Trevor Babcock, Jacob DeWitt, Hunter Wendt, and Caden Dickinson; and Kevin Tripeaux who was declared the state champion in the long jump, high jump, and triple jump; and WHEREAS, the Knights score of 116 points at the state meet set a school record beating the previous high score of 113 points; and WHEREAS, Kevin Tripeaux was voted Outstanding Performer at the state meet; and WHEREAS, five seniors, John Harris, Nathan Murray, Dell Portwood, David Tatman, and Noel Torres, earned Academic All State AA honors, and Jacob DeWitt earned the composite All Classes Academic Award; and WHEREAS, the girls outdoor track team finished the season as the Class 2A state champion for the fourth consecutive year; and WHEREAS, Alicia Stamey broke her own 800 meter run record and Hayley Schwab broke Alicia Stamey's 3200 meter run record, winning their respective events at the state meet; and WHEREAS, in the outdoor season, the Lady Knights captured the District 8AA championship, the twenty-first in program history and sixth consecutive title, as well as the Region II 2A championship, the fourteenth regional title and sixth consecutive title; and WHEREAS, at the state meet, eight team members participated in seven events and won two out of three relays and placed two girls in the 400, 800, 1600, and 3200 meter runs; and WHEREAS, making the podium as state champions were the 4x200 relay team of Jamie Williams, Hunter Heaslip, Mary Kathryn Underwood, and Deven Kimbrell; the 4x400 relay team of Hunter Heaslip, Adele Broussard, Jamiee Williams, and Deven Kimbrell; Alicia Stamey in the 1600 meter run; and Adele Broussard in the 800 meter run; and WHEREAS, state runner-ups included Alicia Stamey in the 800 meter, Deven Kimbrell in the 400 meter, and Hayley Schwab in the 3200 meter runs; and Page 2 of 3 SR NO. 187 ENROLLED WHEREAS, standing at the podium as third place finishers were Alicia Stamey in the 3200 meter run and Hunter Heaslip in the 400 meter dash, and rounding out the scoring in fourth place was Adele Broussard in the 1600 meter run; and WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the teams could not have been achieved without the guidance and skills of boys head coach, Claney Duplechin, and girls head coach, Eddie Cole, as well as the assistant coaches and all of the other individuals who have contributed to the success of the Episcopal High School Knights boys and girls track programs; and WHEREAS, the members of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana wish to recognize each of the coaches and the extraordinary young men and women of the Episcopal High School boys and girls track teams on their much deserved championship titles which were earned through teamwork, determination, and dedication to the sport of track and field. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate the athletes and coaches of the Episcopal High School boys and girls track teams on an impressive and memorable season and on capturing the 2017 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 2A state outdoor championship titles.
