SLS 17RS-2894 ORIGINAL 2017 Regular Session SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 193 BY SENATOR GATTI COMMENDATIONS. Commends Rosemary Grimm on being named Bossier Parish 2017- 2018 Elementary School Teacher of the Year and a semifinalist in the statewide competition to name the 2018 Teacher of the Year for Louisiana. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend Rosemary Grimm on being named Bossier Parish 2017-2018 Elementary 3 School Teacher of the Year and a semifinalist in the statewide competition to name 4 the 2018 Teacher of the Year for Louisiana. 5 WHEREAS, Rosemary Grimm teaches English and Language Arts to fifth graders 6 at Princeton Elementary School in Princeton, Louisiana in Bossier Parish; and 7 WHEREAS, Mrs. Grimm has also been named as a semifinalist in the statewide 8 event to name the 2018 Teacher of the Year for Louisiana sponsored by the Louisiana 9 Department of Education and cosponsored by the organization, Dream Teachers; and 10 WHEREAS, Rosemary Grimm will be honored at the Eleventh Annual Cecil J. 11 Picard Educational Excellence Symposium and celebration that will be held in July 2018, 12 at which time the 2018 Teacher of the Year for Louisiana will be named; and 13 WHEREAS, Rosemary Grimm's philosophy as a teacher is that she works to have 14 her students understand that learning is both empowering and personal and she strives to 15 foster an enthusiasm for learning that will result in a richer quality of life that is more 16 personally gratifying, all important goals for her young students; and 17 WHEREAS, Mrs. Grimm is a wife of more than twenty years and the mother of a 18 daughter and has been a classroom teacher for twelve years and, in addition, she has taught Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 193 SLS 17RS-2894 ORIGINAL 1 at Princeton and also at Homer Elementary School in Homer, Louisiana in Claiborne Parish; 2 and 3 WHEREAS, Rosemary Grimm graduated from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, 4 Louisiana with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education and is currently 5 working toward a master of education degree in educational technology leadership; and 6 WHEREAS, Princeton Elementary School has over five hundred fifty students in 7 grades pre-kindergarten through fifth grade; and 8 WHEREAS, the process for selecting a Louisiana Teacher of the Year begins at the 9 local level, with every public or public charter school district eligible to select a candidate 10 to represent their district, subject to their own selection process and from individual local 11 school nominations sent to the district for further review and consideration; and 12 WHEREAS, each district superintendent or public charter school district may select 13 three outstanding teachers whose names are forwarded to the Louisiana Department of 14 Education for competition at the statewide level, and nominees shall be one each in the 15 categories of elementary, middle school, and high school teachers; and 16 WHEREAS, the department continues the review and evaluation of all district 17 candidates and name, from those candidates, those teachers who are semifinalists for the 18 statewide competition and the teacher of the year is named at the symposium. 19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 20 does hereby commend Rosemary Grimm on being named Bossier Parish 2017-2018 21 Elementary School Teacher of the Year and a semifinalist in the statewide competition to 22 name the 2018 Teacher of the Year for Louisiana. 23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Mrs 24 Rosemary Grimm, at Princeton Elementary School.
