SLS 17RS-499 ORIGINAL 2017 Regular Session SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 20 BY SENATOR COLOMB COMMENDATIONS. Commends Malcolm Gerard Myer for his dedicated and outstanding commitment to public service. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend Malcolm Gerard Myer for his dedicated service and outstanding contributions 3 to the citizens of the state of Louisiana. 4 WHEREAS, Malcolm, a native son and lifelong resident of Louisiana, and grew up 5 in Pointe Coupee Parish, is married to Renee Myer, and has one daughter, Madelyn Myer, 6 and resides in Baton Rouge; and 7 WHEREAS, Malcolm graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, 8 where he received his bachelor of art's degree; and 9 WHEREAS, being interested in government and serving people, Malcolm began 10 working at the Louisiana House of Representatives as an assistant to the clerk; and 11 WHEREAS, in 1991, he became a special assistant to the secretary of the Louisiana 12 Department of Health and Hospitals where he served as the legislative liaison officer and 13 collaborated with executive staff to analyze the impact of federal, state, and local legislation; 14 and 15 WHEREAS, in 1996 through 1999, as a confidential assistant to the secretary of the 16 Louisiana Department of Social Services, Malcolm coordinated special projects and 17 represented the Secretary on several statewide boards and commissions along with providing 18 functional supervision over regional managers' budget requests in excess of four hundred Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 20 SLS 17RS-499 ORIGINAL 1 million dollars; and 2 WHEREAS, after years of service in state government, being equally passionate 3 about state service and moving the state forward, in 1999 Malcolm accepted a position with 4 United States Senator John Breaux; and 5 WHEREAS, during his tenure with Senator Breaux, Malcolm ascended to the job 6 position of State Director where he directed office operations of four state offices and 7 supervised a staff of twelve employees; and 8 WHEREAS, he also served as Senator Breaux's liaison to business and industry 9 leaders, civic and community organizations, local, state, and federal agencies, trade 10 associations, elected officials, and other constituent groups; and 11 WHEREAS, Malcolm returned to state government in 2005 and served as the 12 director for emergency preparedness with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and 13 Forestry, Office of Animal Health Services; and 14 WHEREAS, from 2008 to 2012, Malcolm accepted a position with the Louisiana 15 Department of Justice, focused on improving the lives and health of all Louisiana citizens 16 and was tasked with managing all outreach programs and training, including school safety, 17 domestic violence, and underage drinking prevention awareness and the U Drink, U Drive, 18 U Walk Program; and 19 WHEREAS, being an advocate for the citizens of Louisiana, Malcolm has a special 20 place in his heart for children and has made his feelings known while serving as a member 21 and president of the Louisiana Children's Trust Fund Board of Directors; and 22 WHEREAS, since being president of the board of directors, Malcolm has made it a 23 priority that a comprehensive approach to the prevention of child abuse and neglect be 24 identified within the state; and 25 WHEREAS, Malcolm continues to work tirelessly for the citizens of the state, today 26 he is the deputy secretary for the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections 27 where he manages the legal department, crime victims services, sex offender assessment 28 panels and reentry; and 29 WHEREAS, Malcolm is blessed with a wonderful family and great friends who truly 30 support his dedication and commitment to his career; and Page 2 of 3 SR NO. 20 SLS 17RS-499 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, Malcolm has been the deserving recipient of numerous honors and 2 awards throughout the course of his career and his professional, civic, and business 3 affiliations; and 4 WHEREAS, Malcolm is a public servant whose proven leadership, dedication, and 5 knowledge has merited his consistent executive positions by five Louisiana governors; and 6 WHEREAS, as the Louisiana Children's Trust Fund board of directors comes to an 7 end, and as he prepares to look forward to the next chapter in his life, Malcolm deserves 8 commendation for his contributions and the exemplary strides he has taken as president of 9 the board of directors. 10 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 11 does hereby commend and congratulate Malcolm Gerard Myer, and honor and recognition 12 are hereby extended to him for his outstanding accomplishments as a board member of the 13 Louisiana Children's Trust Fund, and a tribute is hereby paid to him for the effective way in 14 which he has made a difference, and shared his intelligence and energy to serve his family, 15 friends, community, and state. 16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 17 Malcolm Gerard Myer.
