Establishes a special committee to conduct a cooperative study on the preservation of historical markers to determine the feasibility of proposing legislation. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To establish a special committee to conduct a cooperative study on the preservation of 3 historical markers to determine the feasability of proposing legislation. 4 WHEREAS, the preservation of significant historical markers is important to foster 5 and promote, education, history, and culture; and 6 WHEREAS, it is important to protect aspects of the our state's history in honor of the 7 many efforts of our ancestors; and 8 WHEREAS, it is also important to preserve historic markers as an educational tool 9 so that we may learn from past achievements and glean lessons from past failures; and 10 WHEREAS, it is the intention of the Senate to respect the autonomy of cities, 11 municipalities, and parishes while establishing a process for the preservation or relocation 12 of historically significant markers; and 13 WHEREAS, once a cooperative study is conducted on the preservation of historical 14 markers, legislators will ascertain the feasability of proposing legislation that would provide 15 a comprehensive process for preservation and relocation of historical markers. 16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 17 hereby establishes a special committee to conduct a cooperative study on the preservation 18 of historical markers to determine the feasability of proposing legislation.
