SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 25

COMMENDATIONS. Commends the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association for its
outstanding achievements and recognizes Tuesday, April 18, 2017, as Louisiana Physical
Therapy Association Day.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association for its outstanding achievements
3 and to recognize April 18, 2017, as Louisiana Physical Therapy Association Day.
4 WHEREAS, physical therapy is a physical medicine and rehabilitation speciality that
5 remediates impairments and promotes mobility, function, and quality of life for patients
6 through examination, diagnosis, prognosis, and physical intervention, which uses mechanical
7 force and movements; and
8 WHEREAS, the practice of physical therapy endeavors to enhance the physical
9 health and functional abilities of the people of Louisiana through the prevention, diagnosis,
10 and treatment of movement dysfunctions and neuromusculoskeletal conditions; and
11 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association adopted its first bylaws in
12 1982 and, since its inception, has provided outstanding leadership for those eligible for its
13 membership of physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, and students in Louisiana
14 who are pursuing careers in the practice of physical therapy; and
15 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association strives to expand its
16 membership among physical therapists, physical therapy assistants and students in these
17 areas of study in order to enhance participation in legislative policymaking to achieve greater
18 influence in healthcare delivery issues for the benefit of their patients; and

1 WHEREAS, the association has been instrumental in assisting its members to
2 provide the highest quality care available and the members of the association proudly
3 employ their skills in the best interest of their patients; and
4 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association proclaims in its mission
5 statement that it exists to optimize the health and quality of life of the people in Louisiana
6 by advancing the profession of physical therapy; and
7 WHEREAS, this outstanding organization has provided leadership to the physical
8 therapists and physical therapy assistants who practice in Louisiana by promoting key values
9 and behaviors that embrace professionalism; and
10 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association provides numerous
11 educational opportunities to meet the needs of students of physical therapy, clinicians, and
12 society, at large; and
13 WHEREAS, with an aging population and an increasing emphasis on physical fitness
14 and health, the physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, and students engaged in the
15 study of these professions will play an ever increasingly significant part in improving health
16 outcomes and longevity for Louisiana citizens into the future.
17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
18 does hereby commend the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association for its outstanding
19 achievements and does hereby recognize April 18, 2017, as Louisiana Physical Therapy
20 Association Day.
21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
22 Louisiana Physical Therapy Association.
