SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 4

SENATE. Recognizes April 11, 2017, as Louisiana Society of Anesthesiologists Day at the
state capitol.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To recognize April 11, 2017, as Louisiana Society of Anesthesiologists Day at the state
3 capitol.
4 WHEREAS, more than one hundred million operations and procedures are performed
5 every year with anesthesia and physician anesthesiologists play a critical role before, during,
6 and after procedures, making patient safety their top priority; and
7 WHEREAS, physician anesthesiologists have twelve to fourteen years of education
8 and are required to complete between twelve thousand and sixteen thousand hours of
9 training prior to practicing independently; and
10 WHEREAS, a physician anesthesiologist's duties include evaluating a patient's
11 current health prior to receiving anesthesia to ensure the best outcome, administering
12 anesthesia, monitoring the patient during surgery, and assessing the patient after the
13 procedure is completed; and
14 WHEREAS, anesthesia is safer than ever before but there always is a potential for
15 complications and side effects and physician anesthesiologists have the training and
16 expertise to help minimize risks, monitor for any problems, and take quick action; and
17 WHEREAS, when seconds count, when emergencies or complications occur
18 unexpectedly, physician anesthesiologists draw upon their extensive medical education and

1 years of clinical training and experience to make critical decisions that save lives; and
2 WHEREAS, physician anesthesiologists are committed to educating patients to make
3 their anesthesia even safer, to reduce their risk of complication, and to hasten their recovery
4 from surgery; and
5 WHEREAS, Governor John Bel Edwards has proclaimed January 29 through
6 February 4, 2017, as Physician Anesthesiologists Week in the state of Louisiana; and
7 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Society of Anesthesiologists is a physician organization
8 representing over four hundred twenty-nine active, retired, affiliate, and resident member
9 physicians in the state of Louisiana; and
10 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Society of Anesthesiologists is dedicated to
11 communicating the scope and value of the physician anesthesiologist to the public,
12 monitoring and promoting public policy to enhance patient care, and serving as an advocate
13 for physician anesthesiologists and their patients.
14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
15 does hereby recognize April 11, 2017, as Louisiana Society of Anesthesiologists Day at the
16 state capitol and does hereby commend and express enduring appreciation for physician
17 anesthesiologists who have developed the knowledge, techniques, and protocols that have
18 greatly improved the safety of anesthesia and the well-being of surgical patients.
19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
20 president of the Louisiana Society of Anesthesiologists.
