SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 70

A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate the lifters and coaches of the Delhi Charter School boys
powerlifting team on winning the 2017 Louisiana High School Athletic Association
Division V, Class 1A State Powerlifting Championship.
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens of Louisiana and the Senate of the
Legislature of Louisiana congratulate the Delhi Charter School boys powerlifting team on
their competitive spirit during the season that culminated in winning the Division V, Class
1A High School Boys State Powerlifting Championship on March 17, 2017; and
WHEREAS, the Delhi Charter School boys powerlifters displayed impeccable team
concept throughout the season and each of these young men deserves individual recognition
for his vital contribution to the success of the team; and
WHEREAS, Elijah McKinney, Hunter McKinney, Tyler McMurry, Tripp Spillers,
Elijah Harris, Rodney Mitchell, Lawson Nelson, Jake Stansbury, Hunter Welch, Trey Welch,
Anthony Smithey, Jared Barmer, Jake Hale, Ethan Harrell, and Chad Lee are all commended
for their determination and dedication to the sport; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend three team members, Tyler McMurry,
Elijah Harris, and Anthony Smithey, who were awarded individual state champion awards
in their respective weight classes; and
WHEREAS, it is also appropriate to commend junior Tyler McMurry for setting a
new divisional state squat record at three hundred seventy pounds; and
WHEREAS, it is also appropriate to commend senior Anthony Smithey for setting
a new divisional state bench record at four hundred twenty pounds, while also breaking the
overall total record by totaling one thousand five hundred fifteen pounds in all three events
combined; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Josh Barham instilled in his lifters the kind of leadership
and motivational skills needed to achieve great success both on and off the platform; and

WHEREAS, the Delhi Charter School Gators bring a commanding sense of honor
and immense pride to the school, the town of Delhi, and the state of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate the lifters and coaches of the Delhi Charter School
boys powerlifting team on an impressive and memorable season, and on capturing the 2017
Louisiana High School Athletic Association District V, Class 1A State Powerlifting
Championship.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Delhi Charter School Headmaster Brett Raley and Head Coach Josh Barham.
