Expresses condolences upon the Death of John "Pa" Breitschopf. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the 3 death of John "Pa" Breitschopf, United States Marine Corps veteran. 4 WHEREAS, Mr. Breitschopf was born to John Joseph Breitschopf and Elizabeth 5 Eula Stolle in Waelder, Texas, on March 4, 1927, and he died on April 27, 2017, at the age 6 of ninety; and 7 WHEREAS, John Breitschopf and his sister, Elizabeth, were orphaned at a young age 8 with the death of their parents in a terrible accident between their car and a train; and 9 WHEREAS, stepping in to raise the children were their German immigrant 10 grandparents, who brought the children to their home in New Braunfels, Texas; and 11 WHEREAS, after working in a tire factory during his teens, Mr. Breitschopf joined 12 the Unites States Marine Corps and became a Marine for life; and 13 WHEREAS, John Breitschopf served for several years aboard the U.S.S. Roosevelt, 14 a Midway-class aircraft carrier that spent most of her active deployed career in the 15 Mediterranean Sea as part of the United States Sixth Fleet; and 16 WHEREAS, while in port at the United States Naval Base at Norfolk, Virginia, Mr. 17 Breitschopf met Maxine "Nan" Weese and after a courtship, the two were married; and 18 WHEREAS, when his career as a Marine ended, John Breitschopf worked in the Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 79 SLS 17RS-1202 ORIGINAL 1 oilfields to support Nan and his family; and 2 WHEREAS, as young adults, Mr. and Mrs. Breitschopf and their two children, David 3 and Lynda, moved to Bossier City which remained their home; and 4 WHEREAS, the couple raised their children and, eventually, Mr. Breitschopf retired 5 from the oil field life, opened Southern Gardens, and lived there with their children for the 6 remainder of their lives; and 7 WHEREAS, John Breitschopf was a member of Barksdale United Methodist Church, 8 enjoyed attending family events, and was an enthusiastic fan of the Louisiana State 9 University Tigers and both the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints of the National 10 Football League; and 11 WHEREAS, Mr. Breitschopf enjoyed his hobbies, including working in his garden, 12 raising cattle, tinkering with tractors, and building things from lawn mowers and pipes; and 13 WHEREAS, John Breitschopf truly loved his time fishing, particularly at Toledo 14 Bend and Ninock Plantation; and 15 WHEREAS, Nan predeceased her husband, but left to treasure their memories of 16 their "Pa" are their two children and their spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; 17 and 18 WHEREAS, John "Pa" Breitschopf lived a long life filled with service to his country, 19 a loving marriage with his wife, and the pleasure of treasuring his children and their families, 20 while pursuing hobbies that he enjoyed; a life well lived. 21 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 22 does hereby express sincere condolences upon the death of John "Pa" Breitschopf, United 23 States Marine Corps veteran and family man. 24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to 25 David Breitschopf on behalf of the entire Breitschopf family.
