SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 81

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Matthew Maurice Louviere on earning the rank of Eagle
Scout.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend Matthew Maurice Louviere upon achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
3 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend and celebrate the accomplishments of
4 Matthew Maurice Louviere of Boy Scouts of America Troop 133 and Venture Crew 119 on
5 the occasion of his attainment of the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout; and
6 WHEREAS, the purpose of the Boy Scouts of America, incorporated on February
7 8, 1910, and chartered by the United States Congress in 1916, is to provide an educational
8 program for boys and young men to build character, to train in the responsibilities of
9 participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness; and
10 WHEREAS, to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in scouting, a Boy
11 Scout must fulfill all requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills, and
12 the Eagle Scout must earn twenty-one merit badges which signify mastery of Scoutcraft
13 skills, including Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, and Citizenship
14 in the World; and
15 WHEREAS, in his scouting endeavors, as well as in life in general, Matthew has had
16 excellent mentors and role models, including his siblings Mikelyn and Michelle; mother
17 Tammy; and father Mike, who is a former Cub Scout leader and has held leadership
18 positions with Troop 133 and Venture Crew 119; and

1 WHEREAS, in addition to the merit badges he has earned in scouting, Matthew has
2 held several leadership positions including patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, and
3 senior patrol leader for Troop 133; den chief for Pack 463; bugler; instructor for merit
4 badges on kayaking, canoeing, and life saving; and has been the recipient of special scouting
5 honors of achievement including the Claude Hoover Memorial Award for Outstanding Scout
6 of the District and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Outstanding Scout; and
7 WHEREAS, Matthew served as an instructor for the Introduction to Leadership
8 Skills training course at the National Youth Leadership Training and is trained as a Red
9 Cross certified life guard with additional training in first aid and defibrillator use; and
10 WHEREAS, for his Eagle Scout service project, Matthew, worked to improve the
11 New Iberia City Dog Park; and
12 WHEREAS, Matthew attends Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and New Iberia
13 Senior High School in New Iberia, Louisiana, where he is graduating with honors, having
14 attained a 3.0 GPA; has been a member of the school marching band, serving as their
15 trumpet section leader; and has been a member of the concert band, all parish honor band,
16 and district honor band; and
17 WHEREAS, Matthew's accomplishments in music earned him a position with the
18 New Iberia Community Band and the 2017 Louisiana Start Drum Corp; and
19 WHEREAS, in the fall, Matthew will be attending the University of Louisiana at
20 Lafayette where he will major in accounting and be a member of The Pride of Acadiana, UL
21 Lafayette's marching band.
22 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
23 does hereby commend Matthew Maurice Louviere upon achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
25 Matthew Maurice Louviere.
