SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 82

CONDOLENCES. Expresses condolences on the death of Robert Godwin Sr.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
3 death of Robert Godwin Sr., a man of character known for his good deeds and kind
4 heart.
5 WHEREAS, Robert Godwin Sr. was a compassionate person filled with the milk of
6 human kindness, a true gentleman, and genuine friend to all; and
7 WHEREAS, Mr. Godwin, at the age of seventy-four, tragically and senselessly lost
8 his life on Sunday, April 16, 2017, while walking home following an Easter meal with his
9 children in Cleveland, Ohio; and
10 WHEREAS, a retired foundry worker and father of ten with fourteen grandchildren,
11 he taught his family the importance of forgiveness; and
12 WHEREAS, Mr. Godwin loved fishing at Lake Erie and often was seen walking
13 around with a plastic bag in his hand as he collected aluminum cans he saw on the ground;
14 and
15 WHEREAS, Robert Godwin Sr. was the embodiment of the joy of living, joie de
16 vivre, empathy, strength, and comfort; the genuine article, a true altruist who cared for
17 everyone, and whose compassion for his fellow man knew no bounds; and
18 WHEREAS, Mr. Godwin was struck down on Easter Sunday 2017, not by the

1 ravages of time, but by the heinous act of another, someone who snuffed out his light
2 needlessly and thoughtlessly; and
3 WHEREAS, upon his untimely death, the Cleveland, Ohio community lost a unique
4 individual who left an indelible mark upon the lives of all who knew and loved him and
5 benefitted from his thoughtfulness and generous spirit.
6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
7 does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Robert
8 Godwin Sr., whose passing leaves a tear in the fabric of Cleveland and in the hearts of his
9 children, grandchildren, and all who knew and loved this remarkable man.
10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
11 family of Robert Godwin Sr.
