A RESOLUTION
To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana to the
family of United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Evan Burnett upon his death
while serving in the armed forces of his country.
WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Burnett was a native of Monroe, Louisiana, and a
resident of Ft. Necessity, Louisiana, at the time of his death; and
WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Burnett was a 2009 graduate of Franklin Parish High
School and was a member of the school's Reserve Officer Training Corps because of his
strong interest in military service; and
WHEREAS, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in January of 2015 and
began the tough, demanding challenge of Marine Corps basic training at Paris Island, South
Carolina; and
WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Burnett continued his training and was successful in
achieving the title of Data Network Specialist and worked in that capacity while he was
stationed at Camp LeJeune, South Carolina; and
WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Burnett proved himself to be a fine marine and was
proud of serving his country as a member of the Marine Corps, which he considered the
finest fighting force in the world; and
WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Burnett died during a visit to his home in Fort Necessity
on January 28, 2017, leaving his family and close friends in the dark about the reasons and
causes behind his death; and

WHEREAS, he is survived by his mother, Kathleen Burnett of Fort Necessity; his
brother, Dustin and sister-in-law, Lorna, and their children Conner and Adrian, all of Baton
Rouge; his sister and brother-in-law, Jamie and Caleb Smith of Rayville; and his
grandmother Irma Carter of Winnsboro; and
WHEREAS, the loss of Lance Corporal Burnett is immeasurable to those who loved
him and who now must struggle with the mystery of his passing at such a young age with
so much of his life still before him; and
WHEREAS, his untimely death will never be forgotten by those who witnessed his
solemn funeral ceremony and saw the full military honors bestowed upon him by the Marine
Corps Honor Guard that laid him in his final resting place.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby extend its deepest and most profound condolences to the family and friends of
United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Evan Burnett for their loss and his great
sacrifice.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
mother of Evan Burnett.
