SLS 17RS-1424 ORIGINAL 2017 Regular Session SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 91 BY SENATOR WHITE COMMENDATIONS. Commends the Central High School Lady Wildcats Softball Team upon winning the state Class 5A championship. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend the Central High School Lady Wildcats softball team on winning the Class 5A 3 girls' state softball championship. 4 WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens of Louisiana have learned that the 5 Central High School Lady Wildcats softball team won the 2017 Class 5A girls' state softball 6 championship in a season in which the team hit twenty-one home runs; and 7 WHEREAS, the Lady Wildcats posted an overall 27-6 record with wins over several 8 eventual state champions in other divisions, including Parkview Baptist, Mount Carmel, and 9 North Vermilion, as well as victories over eventual state runners-up Maurepas, Brusly, and 10 Riverside; and 11 WHEREAS, almost every team the Lady Wildcats defeated was ranked in the top 20 12 in their respective classification and of the team's six losses, the team played four of them 13 a second time and won each contest; and 14 WHEREAS, Central won its first District 4-5A championship, shared with Live Oak, 15 with a 7-1 district record; and 16 WHEREAS, the title was the first for Central High School in Class 5A and the first 17 state title in twenty-one years in softball; and 18 WHEREAS, the Lady Wildcats defeated the number three team in the nation and the Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 91 SLS 17RS-1424 ORIGINAL 1 number one seed in the state, Alexandria Senior High, in the semifinals 8-5 with a grand 2 slam home run by first basemen Kamryn Jordan, after losing to the team 21-1 earlier in the 3 season; and 4 WHEREAS, Central also defeated the number four team in the country and the 5 number two seed in Louisiana, Ouachita, in the state finals 3-1 after having lost to them 11-1 6 during the regular season; and 7 WHEREAS, at the beginning of the season, over one-half of the team member's 8 homes flooded, all but two coaches flooded, everyone on the team was either displaced or 9 had someone staying with them, and the locker room was the only building at the high 10 school to flood; and 11 WHEREAS, the team is comprised of five seniors, eight juniors, three sophomores, 12 and five freshmen on the varsity and a total of twenty-eight in the program; and 13 WHEREAS, Lady Wildcat players Bobbie Amond, Nicki Bourgeois, Kylie Chauvin, 14 Hanna Cowart, Emily Danehower, Alyssa Habig, Savannah Hupp, Bailie Johnson, 15 Kamryn Jordan, Taliyah Joseph, Ashlyn Lord, Mallory Marcotte, Aly Pourciau, 16 Krystal Stubbs, Brooklyn Wascom, Maci Werchen, Destinee White, Raegan Willis, 17 Heather Zumo, and Heidi Zumo all contributed to the championship season; and 18 WHEREAS, the distinguished team performance of the entire Central High School 19 Lady Wildcats softball team throughout the regular season and the postseason has earned 20 them the Class 5A championship title; and 21 WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved 22 without the guidance and skills of head coach, Michelle Efferson, and assistant coaches 23 David Dykes, Len Devall, Amy Knecht Rawlins, and Sara Hunt, as well as all of the other 24 individuals who have contributed to the success of the Lady Wildcats softball program; and 25 WHEREAS, the members of the Senate wish to recognize each of the coaches, 26 managers, and the extraordinary Lady Wildcats team members on their much deserved 27 championship title which was earned through teamwork, determination, and dedication to 28 the sport of softball. 29 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 30 does hereby commend and congratulate the players and coaches of the Central High School Page 2 of 3 SR NO. 91 SLS 17RS-1424 ORIGINAL 1 Lady Wildcats softball team on an outstanding and memorable season, and on capturing the 2 state Class 5A championship. 3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 4 principal of Central High School.
