Hebert Law Center student David Scotton and his 3 family upon the release of the documentary film I Lived on Parker Avenue. 4 WHEREAS, the short documentary film titled I Lived on Parker Avenue will be 5released online for public viewing on the evening of March 8, 2018; and 6 WHEREAS, Governor John Bel Edwards and First Lady Donna Edwards will host 7a red carpet premiere of I Lived on Parker Avenue on the evening of March 6, 2018, at the 8Governor's Mansion; and 9 WHEREAS, I Lived on Parker Avenue follows the life of David Scotton of Metairie, 10who is currently a law student at the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center, on his journey to 11meet his birth parents, Melissa Coles and Brian Nicholas, in Indiana for the first time and 12thank them for the gift of his life; and 13 WHEREAS, I Lived on Parker Avenue tells the story of David's parents, Susan and 14Jimmy Scotton, who adopted David at birth and have given him everything they can give as 15parents; and 16 WHEREAS, I Lived on Parker Avenue shares the life of Melissa Coles, David's birth 17mother who lovingly placed David for adoption after walking out of an Indianapolis abortion 18facility at the very last moment before an abortion; and 19 WHEREAS, I Lived on Parker Avenue was directed by New Orleans filmmaker 20Philip Braun III and produced by Benjamin Clapper through Joie De Vivre Media and 21Louisiana Right to Life; and Page 1 of 2 HLS 181ES-356 ORIGINAL HR NO. 9 1 WHEREAS, David and his parents were bestowed by the Louisiana Institute for 2Children in Families with a Louisiana Angel in Adoption award, honoring David and his 3family for working to better the lives of Louisiana children through adoption; and 4 WHEREAS, I Lived on Parker Avenue has been showcased at the Docuslate Film 5Festival by Newfilmmakers Los Angeles and has been nominated for "Best Documentary 6- Short Category" award; and 7 WHEREAS, I Lived on Parker Avenue strives to reclaim the beauty of adoption in 8our world. 9 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the 10Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend David Scotton, his family, and all those who 11have made possible the release of the documentary film I Lived on Parker Avenue. 12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted 13to David Scotton, Melissa Coles and Brian Nicholas, Susan and Jimmy Scotton, Governor 14John Bel Edwards and First Lady Donna Edwards, and the executive director of Louisiana 15Right to Life.
