COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Notre Dame High School boys' baseball team on
winning the 2018 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division III state
championship
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Notre Dame High School boys' baseball team on winning the 2018
3 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division III state championship.
4 WHEREAS, the Notre Dame Pioneers completed a sensational 2017-2018 season
5with a 6-4 victory against St. Thomas Aquinas in the state championship game, marking the
6Pios' first championship win since 2010; and
7 WHEREAS, the championship win capped off a 27-8 season for the team, which
8includes seven seniors; and
9 WHEREAS, the riveting game went into the ninth inning, although only seven
10innings are scheduled at the high school level; and
11 WHEREAS, the Pios have made a habit of nine-inning affairs in the Division III
12playoffs, with three of their last four games requiring two more innings than the minimum;
13and
14 WHEREAS, pitcher Garret Miller, named the game's Most Outstanding Player,
15surpassed the 125-pitch limit in the ninth inning; and
16 WHEREAS, senior Landon Meche closed out the ninth inning with the bases loaded,
17two outs, and a 3-2 count, leading the Pios to victory over the Falcons; and
18 WHEREAS, the state championship was won by the Pios through the hard work and
19dedication of team members Matt Abshire, Bryce Bergeron, Garrett Bergeron, Kane
20Bergeron, Ben Broussard, Konnor Broussard, Gavin Corzine, Gabe Doucet, Jack Faulk,

1Chase Habetz, Elliot Hebert, John Hoffpauir, Collin Kirsch, Landon Meche, Gabe Menard,
2Garret Miller, Ben Robichaux, Sebastian Roche, Blake Smith, Thomas Stevens, Dominic
3Thibodeaux, and Will Veillon, who deserve merit and recognition for their outstanding
4performances; and
5 WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved
6without the leadership of head coach Chris Stevens; assistant coaches Taylor Bertrand,
7Lewis Cook III, Kevin Magee, and Tim Robichaux; and team manager Andrew Sarver.
8 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
9Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Notre Dame High School boys' baseball
10team on winning the 2018 Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division III state
11championship; and does hereby recognize the team's outstanding performance and the pride
12and honor they have brought to their school and community.
13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
14to head coach Chris Stevens.
