HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 34

COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Mansfield Mayor Curtis W. McCoy on his retirement
and for his many accomplishments
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Honorable Curtis W. McCoy upon his retirement as mayor of the city of
3 Mansfield, Louisiana.
4 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend and celebrate Mayor Curtis W. McCoy of
5Mansfield, Louisiana for his outstanding accomplishments; Curtis W. McCoy has served
6with great distinction and productivity as mayor of Mansfield for sixteen years; and
7 WHEREAS, Mayor McCoy is the first African American mayor of Mansfield; he is
8considered by many to be one of the finest public servants in the history of Louisiana and
9a gentleman whose dedicated and highly productive service has forever changed Mansfield
10for the better; and
11 WHEREAS, during his time in this vital office, Mayor McCoy has made
12extraordinary contributions to the community and to his fellow citizens, playing a major role
13in increasing the city employee hourly wage, creating the city's code enforcement office,
14establishing "Paint Your Heart Out", a home improvement program for senior citizens and
15low-income residents, and countless other beneficial projects; and
16 WHEREAS, prior to his long and distinguished term of service in the mayor's office,
17Mayor McCoy served in law enforcement for the city of Mansfield and DeSoto Parish for
18twenty-eight years; he is a military veteran and has held offices on various boards and
19committees in Mansfield; and
20 WHEREAS, Mayor McCoy was the recipient of the Veterans of Foreign Wars
21Award, a Distinguished Service Award for his work as a Mansfield police officer, and the

12002 AMP Man of the Year Award; he is a member of the St. Luke Missionary Baptist
2Church; and
3 WHEREAS, the strength of Louisiana's communities and overall vitality of society
4depend in great measure upon the intelligence and talent of people like Mayor McCoy; and
5 WHEREAS, Mayor McCoy will always remain an inspiration to his fellow citizens
6for the vital contributions he has made in his long career of effective public service, and he
7merits the highest commendation and most sincere gratitude for his exemplary term of
8service and the tremendous pride, honor, and joy that he brings to all who know and love
9him.
10 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
11Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Honorable Curtis W. McCoy upon his
12retirement as mayor of the city of Mansfield, Louisiana; does hereby commend him for his
13many significant contributions to the city during his term in office; does hereby recognize
14and record for posterity the deep and abiding appreciation of his fellow citizens; and does
15hereby extend to him best wishes for success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
17to Mayor Curtis W. McCoy.
