HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 34
BY REPRESENTATIVE COX
A RESOLUTION
To commend the Honorable Curtis W. McCoy upon his retirement as mayor of the city of
Mansfield, Louisiana.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend and celebrate Mayor Curtis W. McCoy of
Mansfield, Louisiana for his outstanding accomplishments; Curtis W. McCoy has served
with great distinction and productivity as mayor of Mansfield for sixteen years; and
WHEREAS, Mayor McCoy is the first African American mayor of Mansfield; he is
considered by many to be one of the finest public servants in the history of Louisiana and
a gentleman whose dedicated and highly productive service has forever changed Mansfield
for the better; and
WHEREAS, during his time in this vital office, Mayor McCoy has made
extraordinary contributions to the community and to his fellow citizens, playing a major role
in increasing the city employee hourly wage, creating the city's code enforcement office,
establishing "Paint Your Heart Out", a home improvement program for senior citizens and
low-income residents, and countless other beneficial projects; and
WHEREAS, prior to his long and distinguished term of service in the mayor's office,
Mayor McCoy served in law enforcement for the city of Mansfield and DeSoto Parish for
twenty-eight years; he is a military veteran and has held offices on various boards and
committees in Mansfield; and
WHEREAS, Mayor McCoy was the recipient of the Veterans of Foreign Wars
Award, a Distinguished Service Award for his work as a Mansfield police officer, and the
2002 AMP Man of the Year Award; he is a member of the St. Luke Missionary Baptist
Church; and

WHEREAS, the strength of Louisiana's communities and overall vitality of society
depend in great measure upon the intelligence and talent of people like Mayor McCoy; and
WHEREAS, Mayor McCoy will always remain an inspiration to his fellow citizens
for the vital contributions he has made in his long career of effective public service, and he
merits the highest commendation and most sincere gratitude for his exemplary term of
service and the tremendous pride, honor, and joy that he brings to all who know and love
him.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Honorable Curtis W. McCoy upon his
retirement as mayor of the city of Mansfield, Louisiana; does hereby commend him for his
many significant contributions to the city during his term in office; does hereby recognize
and record for posterity the deep and abiding appreciation of his fellow citizens; and does
hereby extend to him best wishes for success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Mayor Curtis W. McCoy.
