COMMENDATIONS: Commends Lewis Cook on his induction into the Louisiana Sports
Hall of Fame
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Lewis Cook on his induction into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
3 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1958 and was
4intended, in the words of Otis Harris, sports editor of the Shreveport Journal, to be "the
5Louisiana Hall of Fame - a hall of fame for the state's greatest athletes, men or women,
6amateur or professional, living or dead"; and
7 WHEREAS, on June 30, 2018, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, eight all-time greats are
8officially joining the ranks of Louisiana sports legends; and
9 WHEREAS, among the remarkable class of honorees to be inducted into the
10Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame is Lewis Cook, longtime Notre Dame High School football
11coach; and
12 WHEREAS, Lewis Cook's coaching career has established him as the top high school
13football coach in history in the Acadiana area; and
14 WHEREAS, Coach Cook has led three different high schools to thirty state playoff
15appearances in his thirty-two years as a head coach; his teams have twenty-three district and
16four state titles; and
17 WHEREAS, Coach Cook has a 333-81 career record, ranking him third in Louisiana
18history among active coaches and fifth all-time in the state; he has been state coach of the
19year six times; and
20 WHEREAS, his playoff record is 73-26, with eleven trips to the state championship
21game, and seventeen semifinal berths; and

1 WHEREAS, Coach Cook spent eight seasons on the staff at the University of
2Louisiana-Lafayette and coached six future NFL players; and
3 WHEREAS, the House of Representatives wishes to recognize Lewis Cook for his
4peerless coaching career and for his well-deserved induction into the Louisiana Sports Hall
5of Fame, for he is truly one of Louisiana's greatest coaches.
6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
7Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Lewis Cook on his induction into the
8Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and does hereby extend to him best wishes in all of his future
9endeavors.
10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
11to Lewis Cook.
