HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 4

A RESOLUTION
To commend Lewis Cook on his induction into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1958 and was
intended, in the words of Otis Harris, sports editor of the Shreveport Journal, to be "the
Louisiana Hall of Fame - a hall of fame for the state's greatest athletes, men or women,
amateur or professional, living or dead"; and
WHEREAS, on June 30, 2018, in Natchitoches, Louisiana, eight all-time greats are
officially joining the ranks of Louisiana sports legends; and
WHEREAS, among the remarkable class of honorees to be inducted into the
Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame is Lewis Cook, longtime Notre Dame High School football
coach; and
WHEREAS, Lewis Cook's coaching career has established him as the top high school
football coach in history in the Acadiana area; and
WHEREAS, Coach Cook has led three different high schools to thirty state playoff
appearances in his thirty-two years as a head coach; his teams have twenty-three district and
four state titles; and
WHEREAS, Coach Cook has a 333-81 career record, ranking him third in Louisiana
history among active coaches and fifth all-time in the state; he has been state coach of the
year six times; and
WHEREAS, his playoff record is 73-26, with eleven trips to the state championship
game, and seventeen semifinal berths; and
WHEREAS, Coach Cook spent eight seasons on the staff at the University of
Louisiana-Lafayette and coached six future NFL players; and

WHEREAS, the House of Representatives wishes to recognize Lewis Cook for his
peerless coaching career and for his well-deserved induction into the Louisiana Sports Hall
of Fame, for he is truly one of Louisiana's greatest coaches.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Lewis Cook on his induction into the
Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and does hereby extend to him best wishes in all of his future
endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Lewis Cook.
