COMMENDATIONS: Commends Dr. Anil Nanda for his service to LSU Health Sciences
Center-Shreveport
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Anil Nanda, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.S., for his exemplary years of service to
3 Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Shreveport (LSU HSC-
4 Shreveport) as a neurosurgery professor and department chair.
5 WHEREAS, Dr. Nanda held the position of chairman of the department of
6neurosurgery at LSU HSC-Shreveport from the time it was established in 1995 until 2017;
7prior to this, Dr. Nanda served five years as chief of neurosurgery; in 2002, Dr. Nanda
8obtained accreditation of a neurosurgery residency program at LSU HSC-Shreveport; and
9 WHEREAS, Dr. Nanda specializes in general and spinal neurosurgery, as well as
10skull base tumors, arteriovenous malformations, aneurysms, and Gamma Knife radiosurgery;
11he has performed more than two thousand five hundred surgeries on aneurysms and skull
12base tumors; and
13 WHEREAS, a native of New York, Dr. Nanda earned his medical degree with honors
14from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research in 1982 and
15completed his neurosurgery residency at the Hahnemann University School of Medicine in
161989; in 2012, Dr. Nanda earned his master of public health from the Harvard T.H. Chan
17School of Public Health; and
18 WHEREAS, he was instrumental in passage of the Louisiana Youth Concussion Act
19of the 2011 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature, which requires all schools, clubs,
20and other organizations that sponsor youth athletics to provide athletes and their parents with

1information about concussions and the potential long-term effects of playing after a head
2injury; and
3 WHEREAS, Dr. Nanda has been invited to be a guest lecturer and visiting professor
4at more than four hundred national and international conferences and institutions; he has
5published more than four hundred twenty-five peer-reviewed journal articles and book
6chapters, as well as two books; and
7 WHEREAS, Dr. Nanda has been honored with several awards; he was given the
8Living Legend Award in 1996, recognized as an Outstanding Leader of 2005 by The Times
9in Shreveport, inducted into the Junior Achievement of North Louisiana Business Hall of
10Fame in 2011, and was awarded a doctorate in humane letters by Centenary College in 2017;
11and
12 WHEREAS, Dr. Nanda is an academic leader in neurosurgery, locally, nationally,
13and internationally, and it is appropriate to commend his many years of dedicated service
14to the LSU HSC-Shreveport School of Medicine.
15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
16Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Anil Nanda, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.S., for his
17exemplary years of service to Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Shreveport
18as a neurosurgery professor and department chair and does hereby wish him full measures
19of success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.
20 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
21to Dr. Anil Nanda.
