HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 50
BY REPRESENTATIVES GLOVER, BAGLEY, CARMODY, CREWS, HORTON,
JEFFERSON, JENKINS, JIM MORRIS, NORTON, REYNOLDS, AND
SEABAUGH
A RESOLUTION
To commend Anil Nanda, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.S., for his exemplary years of service  to
Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Shreveport (LSU HSC-
Shreveport) as a neurosurgery professor and department chair.
WHEREAS, Dr. Nanda held the position of chairman of the department of
neurosurgery at LSU HSC-Shreveport from the time it was established in 1995 until 2017;
prior to this, Dr. Nanda served five years as chief of neurosurgery; in 2002, Dr. Nanda
obtained accreditation of a neurosurgery residency program at LSU HSC-Shreveport; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nanda specializes in general and spinal neurosurgery, as well as
skull base tumors, arteriovenous malformations, aneurysms, and Gamma Knife radiosurgery;
he has performed more than two thousand five hundred surgeries on aneurysms and skull
base tumors; and
WHEREAS, a native of New York, Dr. Nanda earned his medical degree with honors
from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research in 1982 and
completed his neurosurgery residency at the Hahnemann University School of Medicine in
1989; in 2012, Dr. Nanda earned his master of public health from the Harvard T.H. Chan
School of Public Health; and
WHEREAS, he was instrumental in passage of the Louisiana Youth Concussion Act
of the 2011 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature, which requires all schools, clubs,
and other organizations that sponsor youth athletics to provide athletes and their parents with
information about concussions and the potential long-term effects of playing after a head
injury; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Nanda has been invited to be a guest lecturer and visiting professor
at more than four hundred national and international conferences and institutions; he has
published more than four hundred twenty-five peer-reviewed journal articles and book
chapters, as well as two books; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nanda has been honored with several awards; he was given the
Living Legend Award in 1996, recognized as an Outstanding Leader of 2005 by The Times
in Shreveport, inducted into the Junior Achievement of North Louisiana Business Hall of
Fame in 2011, and was awarded a doctorate in humane letters by Centenary College in 2017;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nanda is an academic leader in neurosurgery, locally, nationally,
and internationally, and it is appropriate to commend his many years of dedicated service
to the LSU HSC-Shreveport School of Medicine.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Anil Nanda, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.S., for his
exemplary years of service  to Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Shreveport
as a neurosurgery professor and department chair and does hereby wish him full measures
of success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Dr. Anil Nanda.
