Commends Lyn Rollins upon being awarded the Distinguished Service Award in Sports Journalism. 1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION 2 To commend Lyn Rollins upon being awarded the Distinguished Service Award in Sports 3 Journalism by the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. 4 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame is dedicated to the history of sports 5 in Louisiana, including the achievements of over three hundred Louisiana athletes, coaches, 6 and other sports figures; and 7 WHEREAS, for more than a half-century the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame has 8 recognized outstanding achievements in sports and sports journalism; and 9 WHEREAS, Lyn Rollins has forty-four years and counting as a professional sports 10 broadcaster in Louisiana; and 11 WHEREAS, he is a 1973 Northwestern State University graduate and earned a 12 master's degree in journalism from Louisiana State University; and 13 WHEREAS, Lyn worked in public relations at Louisiana College and also in the 14 private sector, winning multiple Addy Awards for advertising and marketing production and 15 campaigns; and 16 WHEREAS, he was the Demon Sports Network play-by-play man from 1993 to 17 2003, and has also called games for Grambling State University and the Alexandria Aces 18 minor league baseball team; and Page 1 of 3 SCR NO. 1 SLS 182ES-2 ORIGINAL 1 WHEREAS, Lyn has also been a Cox Sports Television play-by-play voice since 2 2003, as well as the primary play-by-play man for Jumbo Sports's groundbreaking telecasts 3 of LSU baseball and other state school athletics, beginning with LSU coverage in 1994 and 4 continuing spot duty to this day; and 5 WHEREAS, he has done state high school game-of-the-week telecasts, hundreds of 6 high school football radio broadcasts, and has called a range of sports including soccer, 7 gymnastics, softball, and volleyball, primarily for coverage of LSU sports on various 8 networks; and 9 WHEREAS, Lyn is believed to have called more televised college baseball games 10 than any other announcer in the country; and 11 WHEREAS, he was a protégée of Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame member and 2010 12 Distinguished Service Award winner Norm Fletcher and succeeded Fletcher as the Voice of 13 the Hall of Fame; and 14 WHEREAS, Lyn has risen to the highest levels in his profession, and has become 15 widely admired and respected in broadcasting and other endeavors; and 16 WHEREAS, he has been named four times as the Louisiana Sportscaster of the Year, 17 an award voted on by his peers in the state; and 18 WHEREAS, for 2018, Lyn Rollins has been awarded the Distinguished Service 19 Award in Sports Journalism by the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, an award he richly 20 deserves for his long and distinguished career in sports journalism. 21 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 22 commend Lyn Rollins upon being awarded the Distinguished Service Award in Sports 23 Journalism by the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. 24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Lyn 25 Rollins.
